I can’t tell you much about Donald’s other employers but he used to do holiday relief for us back around the mid to late 80s - as his nickname suggests, not overly bright but a good grafter and reliable bloke
He had worked for Norman Lewis but I mentioned him to Robbie’s Dad ages ago and he couldn’t remember him, maybe Wheelnut can? I clearly remember earlyish 80s, a load of us hiring a car in Dover to go home for the weekend (maybe due to a customs strike/problem?) and instead Donald went into town and came back with 2 carrier bags full of Brillo Pads as he was going to spend the weekend polishing his whole tank instead! Sorry to hear he’s no longer with us

It all went pear shaped under Kevin Davies (Davis?) but don’t know much detail, I did work with his ex wife/partner Lesley in the early 90s but she ran away to Barcelona to live with the husband of Spain TIR’s MD’s daughter - you couldn’t make it up could you eh?
remember when a one was going down we had lots of fl10s for sale,a bit of a wide boy from Leeds got one, paid 1100 quid for it as it was…there was 1100 quid tax left on it Wonder who the seller was
did a few jobs for him on the truck asked 100 quid but he said 100 good notes or 200 bent notes
YES i took the bent ones
can take the lad out of Leeds but can not take the Leeds out of the lad
great story keith wheres the rest of the boys

I have followed this thread with interset and was wondering wether or not to try and have a reunion for the drivers who worked at Panalpina Bradford.
I have decided to do this, does anyone know of a suitable phone box we could use?

There’s a suitable phone box smack in the centre of Bradford it was used last week to hold the annual virgins ball, don’t know the number though.

Hi all,is there anymore photo’s out threre we have not seen they keep popping up from you guys
Sorry I’ve not been on for a while guy’s, age and ill health are catching me up too fast at the moment, I see that some of you are wondering what’s happening about the reunion, I think it’s because I’ve not been in contact for a while, but my suggestion is that we go back to the Bold Privateer where we went last time, it was a good venue and we were made welcome, unless someone wants to change to another place of there choice, I also think we should have it in August, any time except the 7th, please let me know as soon as possible and we can get it booked and set a date for everyone, and start making phone calls to the guys who are not computer minded.
Alan Bennett:
Hi Stuart. While all you lot got to go home by train Jack Tether and myself had to stay with our vehicle’s for the duration of the strike. Jack and me were up near Cluses, and all credit to the French drivers all the transit drivers were well looked after. by transit drivers i mean:: Germans Belgians Dutch ect ect. So all in all we all had a decent time. So many memories and at my age i have trouble remembering them in detail. Catch you later Stuart, take care of yourself. (Alan)
There’s a long story of the strike, it started when I was in Aosta with Les Mullins, but I think it would be a good idea of Les told the story, we were on the top next to the tunnel for 10 whole days, there were only two vehicles in front of me and Les before the tunnel when they closed it, it was fine when we stopped the first night, but in the morning we were up to our necks in snow, and was there for 10 days, and I can tell you all the jokes and fun went after we ran out of diesel and money within a couple of days, so come on les it’s up to you. :-Jack

Your so right about Donald, I remember him when he was with UFO, and then another firm after they went down, but I cant remember who, but who ever he worked for must have got there monies worth out of him, because he was as you said a real grafter, and would help anyone who needed it no matter which company it was.
The last time I ever saw him was in Tesco’s car park on Canal Road in Bradford, it was many years ago and he was just as cheerful as he was at work, he was one of the guy’s on the road who always made his mark on the job, and I’m saddened to hear he’s gone. :- Jack.
