Noticed this morning that they’ve closed a lot off the minor road entrances/exits along that stretch as well, Maybe that will improve the traffic flow, or are they getting it ready for Motorway upgrade
Since the laybys have been closed the flow of traffic as been alot better at busy times, its still a ■■■■ if somebody pulls out of the garage where the cafe is at wentbridge if you are full tonk
You’re not wrong there seth. Its to the point its dangerous. How there aren’t more accidents there in the mad rush north in the early morning rush hour I don’t know.

The stretch of the A1 from just past the M18 junction upto the M62 both ways is one of the worst stretches of road in the country IMO. Short slip roads, lay bys over brows of hills and as Seth says garages where traffic can pull out at crawling pace into the path of loads of traffic going twice as fast.
Been many a fatal on this stretch over the years.

I fully agree with it to be honest. Virtually every single one of those laybys is not safe to depart from.
The answer then is to improve the lay-bys, make them much larger and give them deceleration and acceleration lanes, not to close them down. France seems to have no problem in providing such a thing, so why can’t they do it in ENGLAND?
