Why don’t they bring them upto standard… bigger, wider, longer run ways etc. Traffic, parking is only ever going to get worse and not better.
There are plans underway to upgrade this stretch of the A1 to motorway in years to come, so the laybys were always going to disappear anyway so probably best to get people used to not being able to park there now.
yorkshire terrier:
The amount of times iv gone in to ferrybridge and had to drive back out is unreal.
Always seems to be rammed through the day…
Whitwood is always busy and double yellow lines around all the estates.
I’m keeping my few little local parking spots secret because the area is losing way too much Hgv parking.
It was a right barsteward when they put overnight parking restrictions for ouwt over 7 and half tonne on the ins estate in Normanton. One main reason for that though was the dirty pricks leaving ■■■■ bottles and bags of [zb] around. Mind you the fella that runs the snack van near The pub did say that the old Bill did have somthing to do with it due to the amount of diesel thefts happening and they were getting sick and tired of having to patrol it
About right that for the police.
That’s the problem steve now drivers that leave a mess and ruin it for the rest of us…
I fully agree with it to be honest. Virtually every single one of those laybys is not safe to depart from. I’d argue the Shell garages want to be closed as well for the very same reason and the junctions immediately next to them as well. How the hell there’s not more accidents in the morning rush I don’t know, especially around 5-6am when all the parcel company wagons are belting back up that stretch.

The junction when you come from Adwick onto the A1 s/b just before Redhouse you set off from a standing start because if you swing around the corner onto the slip road to build speed up you would be into lane 1 anyway.
wiggy:
I have heard that Redhouse has been double yellowed.has anybody been there recently?
Still plenty parking on there mate. IMO. Double yellows are fine as long as you ain’t parked up there during say the hours of 7am-6pm as long as you’re away before the traffic warden has illegally parked his/her car and started their shift then your ok. However if in a city like London then you’re knackered as the traffic wardens there seem to work 24/7.
No double yellows up the top end,ive been told to only park there if you are empty or with your back doors open though, right at the top at the dead end theres a rough housing estate thru the edges ,a lad at work comes from that estate and he said the smack rats are allways on the prowl

The answer then is to improve the lay-bys, make them much larger and give them deceleration and acceleration lanes, not to close them down. France seems to have no problem in providing such a thing, so why can’t they do it in Yorkshire?
I was in B&Q Redhouse today, the security guard said that tickets were going to be issued shortly for anyone on the double yellows, he also said they were concerned about people starting to park on the road in and out of their depot as there’s nothing really they can do about it

It’s ok saying there are alternatives but as pointed out above at certain times of the day the are rammed and that’s before the caravan crew kick into action in the next few months.
I don’t understand why councils, governments never future proof things, it’s always the cheap option which will end up needing rectified at some point in the near future and cost even more.

When we had trucks running out of there doing Asda work they used to park the units in the car park of the RDC which is now Next I think. One day the 4 drivers turned up who did the Asda work to find all the battery’s had been pinched off the units
That’s the Oval est at woodlands I was shagging one of the local slappers on there years ago the est was ok when pit was open but that shut down and council moved life’s no hopers on there shame as there is some nice people on ther. That bad now even the pit bulls walk round in pairs

I wonder why they don’t redesign the whole n/b slip road section around the A639 & Barnsdale services making 1 decent exit/entry and build a parallel service road etc to join the services to it, a bit like they did when they cut off the direct access to Kernow
eddie snax:
Bloody shame they put that ■■■ Shop there, was a useful bit off parking, or at least its a shame they put that arnco barrier there
Drivers didn’t do themselves any favours in the time between the little chef closing and the ■■■ shop opening. As I watched several times drivers backing their trailers up to the steps to block anyone opening the trailer doors, misjudging it, and ultimately demolished the brick wall bit by bit

True, it was turning into yet another HGV park dustbin/toilet, for those all to numerous drivers who find effort a difficult concept to grasp
Noticed this morning that they’ve closed a lot off the minor road entrances/exits along that stretch as well, Maybe that will improve the traffic flow, or are they getting it ready for Motorway upgrade

Definatly the motorway upgrade I reckon. Don’t know why them remaining lay-bys have been closed ‘for two weeks’ as they have done nothing with them, wouldn’t surprise me if they never reopen.
