In educational circles, especially tertiary education (Universities etc), it’s standard practice for a highly qualified woman to retain her own name and personage after marriage.

It does not matter a ■■■■ what the actual reason is for a relationship to work, marriage or otherwise.
You have to work at a relationship, and put a bit of effort into it from both sides.
