Once you have been issued with a DCPC card and I mean specifically before the Sept deadline, must you carry it with you in the same way as you must carry your digi card?

Yes - when you are driving commercially
It does make you wonder why in this modern age of computers and the police automatically knowing what license you have and whether the vehicle you are driving is insured etc why anyone should have to carry a piece of plastic around with them?
Cue the poor driver who forgets his wallet one Monday morning and instantly becomes a ‘criminal’.
Beyond September you will probably find more drivers fined for not carrying the card, as opposed to drivers fined for not having completed the course.
I do agree that it’s absurd that the police can check your status regarding licence & insurance but not your DCPC.

If the DVSA can check it roadside then why not the cops?
Why! do you have to carry it now when it doesn’t come into force till September■■? Not a legal requirement until then surely
If you have the card then you must carry it with you.I was in the coach and had VOSA pounce on me at Perth Race course. We had a “chat” about need to wear seat belts, then have you got your DCPC card I said yes and went to produce it.VOSA said I asked do you have it I said nothing about wanting to see it!
I’ve been told you don’t have to carry it until September…I do carry it anyway.

+1. DVSA are a notoriously fickle bunch, are they not? Carry it anyway - after all, it`s neither bulky or heavy!
At the moment HGV drivers don’t have to carry their DQC if they have possession of one. However, after 10th September it will be mandatory for all HGV drivers i.e. 7.5t & above to ensure they carry it at all times. Failure to do so & being pulled by the police or VOSA could result in a hefty fine of £1000.

Any chance of you posting the link to that information please?
Seems to contradict this;
After you’ve passed the initial qualification you’ll get a driver qualification card (DQC).
You must carry your DQC while driving a large goods vehicle or passenger carrying vehicle.

That really is the sort of thing that marks someone out as an instant ■■■■■■■■. Bet he’s fun to be with at parties.

If only the VOSA parties were like the Custom’s parties
I wouldn’t mind an invite to one of them
Think you’ll find vosa don’t have access to driving licence records… that’s why you need to carry your card

That is what I thought, however 1 particular company is adamant that I should be carrying it even though they are not req`d between now and Sept
They are also rigorously checking and documenting who has and who has not completed all their hours
Agree with ROG and Trubster on this one. Your DCPC card is part of your vocational category on your licence. If you have a card issued then it is supposed to be carried any time you are driving commercially.
I’ve got ID badges for work so it just goes in the same holder and get forgotten about.
I don’t see why it’s so difficult to carry it around with you. You manage to carry digicards or charts around all the time so just keep them together.
Good practice …carry it with you as per Digi-card/ADR ‘card’ or paper Cert.
A company I deal with have made it company policy for their drivers to carry it once issued (some drivers have 35 hours & DQC whilst some are still on 28 hours at the moment). The reason they have made it company policy is so that all drivers are in the habit of carrying it prior to mandatory date of 10 Sept. 2014.
As a footnote if DQC has been issued as per the Initial DCPC Mod. 2 & 4 route then it is definitely compulsory for it to be carried - as the posted link states. Sometimes police/DVSA may get these scenarios ‘muddled up’ or misunderstood - another reason to carry DQC once issued.
The question was “must you carry it with you in the same way as you must carry your digi card?” to which the answer is no.
There’s nothing I can find in the regulations that suggests that a driver who has acquired rights until September has to carry his DQC card if he has one.
The link in trubster’s post is referring to people who have done the Initial DCPC.
The regulations make it clear that if you’re required by law to have either done the initial DCPC or to have done 35 hours DCPC training you must carry evidence of the qualification, ie the DQC card, people who have acquired rights are not required by law to have done 35 hours DCPC training until the acquired rights run out in September.

No it doesn’t, it reads that if you’re required by law to have done 35 hours DCPC training you must carry evidence that the training has been done.
