A quick DCPC question

The regulations make it clear that if you’re required by law to have either done the initial DCPC or to have done 35 hours DCPC training you must carry evidence of the qualification, ie the DQC card, people who have acquired rights are not required by law to have done 35 hours DCPC training until the acquired rights run out in September.

that reads if you have done the 35 hours then the DQC needs to be carried …

No it doesn’t, it reads that if you’re required by law to have done 35 hours DCPC training you must carry evidence that the training has been done.

Does the DQC have a valid from date?

In what way does it matter ?

As far as I can see the regulations stipulate that if you’re legally required to have done either the Initial DCPC or the 35 hours training you must carry the DQC card, the start date on the card doesn’t even come into it because you’re not legally required to have done the periodic training until the acquired rights run out.

Just had a look online at dqc examples and all seem to have a start date as well as an expiry date so it mutes any point I was thinking about

This document, though issued in NI, makes quite clear it applies equally in the UK.

In section 7 it talks about the DQC being issued either after completion of the relevant inital modules, or after the completion of 35 hrs periodic training, and then in the FAQ about carrying the card when driving, makes no differentiation between the two.

The specimem cards show a date of issue and a date of expiry.

Can’t see anything that suggests you shouldn’t carry it once issued regardless of the circumstances in which it was issued.

Does it really matter . Just put it with your legaly REQUIRED document ie your digi tacho card . After all it ain’t gonna kill you now is it ffs

This is a discussion forum and presumably the question was asked in order to get an answer, if you don’t like the discussion don’t read the thread.

This. No one’s going to give you a bollocking for carrying it when you don’t need to.

Think you’ll find vosa don’t have access to driving licence records… that’s why you need to carry your card

So how does VOSA check youve got a LGV licence?? As you dont have to carry your driving licence.

From my understanding, don’t they get elements from your driving license to issue you with your driver qualification card, i.e your stored DVLA photo and signature? There must be a checkable link somewhere that connects the two organisations?

…then have you got your DCPC card I said yes and went to produce it.VOSA said I asked do you have it I said nothing about wanting to see it!

Do VOSA learn to speak to you like a ■■■■■■■■■■■■■ on some training course?

According to this article VOSA have access to some databases on the police national computer, although the article doesn’t say so it would be a bit surprising if they don’t have access to the Drivers database on the police national computer.

I just don’t see the point, you got it, carry it, as I said its not the end of the world having that tiny plastic card with everything else you carry around.

I don’t think so, I’m sure they’ve had training on how to ■■■■ off stroppy drivers though .

How about a common sense approach…if you carry it with you, for instance in your wallet or ■■■■■ then there is less chance of it being mis-placed between now and September…at which point it will definitely be a requirement to be carried, no ifs or buts. I would suggest the DQC is better off in your wallet/■■■■■ than at the bottom of a drawer somewhere…it may even save you a card replacement fee■■?

You reckon the man deserved that little bit of sarcasm then?

Geesh I only asked a simple question, and I got a thread with a protracted debate/argument that’s lost the plot :unamused:

Welcome to Trucknet. You must be new here.

Just remember not to sleep in the cab with the DQC. I have heard it has an ■■■■ probe built into it, or was it the card itself was ■■■■?? I get confused…

The answer to your question is in Article 11 -The Vehicle Drivers (Certificates of Professional Competence) Regulations 2007

I don’t think you’ll find anything that suggests that a driver who has acquired rights has to carry his DQC card if he has one.

As my CPC course is booked for late August (yes I left it a little late and should be shot) woud it be acceptable to carry my course completion certificate (presuming I get one) if my card hasn’t arrived through the post in time for Sept 10th as satisfactory evidence. Also can we save nectar points on it as I have had the nectar card for years and always carry it.
