the maoster:
It’s 428cm long x 163cm wide x 132cm high, it has to be kept flat and weighs approx 200kg. It’s going from Waterford in Southern Ireland to Surrey in England.
Dunno if they operate on the Emerald Isle, but any reputable pallet company ( pallex, tpn, palletline etc) would charge about 80 quid (or whatever the equivalent is in your funny money) for that. 2 to 3 day turnaround.
I`ll be interested in the names of pallet companies that will do a 4.28metre long x 1.63 metre wide pallet for £80 anywhere never mind Southern Eire to southern England.

If I could figure out how to highlight something with this bleedin I pad I’d hightlight the bit that give the measurements in centimetres, not metres. Typical fella, yeah of course it’s nine inches!

Why? 428cm is still 4.28m

Yeah, my mistake. Thinking there’s a 1000 cm in a metre! Bloody new fangled measurements!
I’d give hales a ring. he has lorries up and down your neck of the woods all the time.
this CMR thing seems to have caused some confusion, you don’t need a CMR for goods carried between the UK and Ireland. But it will be carried under RHA or CMR conditions of carriage for insurance purposes. it’s not something you need to make an issue about, any legit firm will have this all in hand.

Absolutely no confusion, whether or not it’s compulsory isn’t the issue here. If you where shipping a half ton piece of machinery worth £25,000 from Ireland to England how would you feel if it arrived smashed to bits only to find the carrier would only pay out 50p because their exclusive coditions are that they only value goods carried @ £1 per ton?

Read the conditions, they carry goods under their own terms, NOT CMR & no mention of RHA, it’s all written in their conditions of carriage & I take point at your ridiculous comment about “not something you need to make an issue about”!!! What a stupid thing to write, re my first comment in this post about a £25k machine & only being paid out in proportion to their conditions of carriage which if actually RHA would only pay the sender £700!!! what if it was worth £250k & get paid £700? Clearly something you don’t think is worth worrying yourself about.
Not something to make an issue about? what a load of bollox!!! Definately something to make an issue of!!
It’s likely that any company I use is going to put the shipment on a groupage delivery, so the likelihood of it being damaged due to an accident is just as high from one company to the next. The issue resides within the costs being recovered from any potential accident that may happen (and they do happen), so that was something that concerned me about Nolan’s terms that has been put to rest by a third party.
Now, I have an insurance company that are willing to do a total loss, dent and scratch cover (provided there’s a damage report prior to the truck setting off) for £100, which means that even with full value recovery insurance and Nolan’s cost of delivery, I’m £150 better off.

Ross.
who mentioned a £25k machine?
i didn’t see it. very sorry for missing it.
when a vendor has an expensive item, they would usually ask for an addition to the insurance for the said item. If not then it’s carried under the usual conditions of carriage RHA/CMR, therefore it isn’t an issue, it isn’t anything to worry about.
talking about expensive items is different to what jezza was talking about as far as i’m concerned.
HI JEZZA
There are more transport companys in south Ireland You have Perennial Freight Rosslare also Roche freight rosslare
look up their web site for more info

You know exactly what I meant with the £25k ‘example’ and as you well know the word “machine” was also only used in my example.
GBPub:
bigr250, cmr doesn’t apply to movements that are strictly between Eire & UK or vice versa. So it is pointless mentioning cmr.
I have operated trucks between the UK & 11 European countries including Eire, and my best paying customer required CMR cover wherever I collected or delivered their goods. (even for UK only movements!!!) In as much as it being a requirement I’ll agree it’s pointless, but in terms of a payout should the op’s 200kg package go missing it WILL make an enormous difference in so much as a potential insurance payout is concerned, RHA cover would be looking to pay a maximum of £280 whatever it’s true value!!!

Ross.
Running on cmr would make no difference whatsover to the OP or to your customers on solely UK to UK or Eire to UK shipments as cmr regulations do not apply to these movements. Therefore should there be a claim then the insurer would not pay out under cmr and would look to pay out on the lowest psossible basis. This would likely be RHA which is £1.30 per kg, (cmr is approx. £8 per kg). No insurer pays more than they have to, so would look into the reason it was on cmr and reject the claim on the above basis that it isn’t covered under cmr.
If the customer requires higher insurance cover, then they would need to arrange seperate cover either with the transport company or through a broker.
As an aside, if I brought a load in from France and transhipped to you in Birmingham for onward shipping to Leeds or Eire then cmr would apply to the whole journey.
From what i’ve read on here i’d say you are not going to get anyone do that, but they do seem to get everywhere so if you want experience give them a go.
Used to work at a company called Marshall Tufflex and Nolan’s did all our Irish work in the 13 years I was there. Everything seemed to run smoothly and never heard of any problems.
