A new start is possible

Although late I have just got back from a meeting with a company discussing job vacancies.

If you are 25 or up have no more than 6 points and want to work in Witham, Essex, the following is available for newly qualified.

Class 1 - 5.30pm leave Witham drop 1 hit in Burton, tip , reload then back home, 1 vacancy

Cat C - 5.00am start. Not sure of hours. X 2 drivers

Because we have traineed a few for this company they have asked us instead of their usual channels.

PM me with CV because this would be the 1st time we have been asked. I did not ask the wage.

Did the company give a reason for the minimum age of 25?

I know a company who does it, which I applied for, I was cheeky and asked, they replied for insurance purposes :unamused:

Guess it might be the same.

I wrote the very same last night and then scrubbed it in fear of an argument :unamused:

It’s ridiculous, such a poor excuse.

Why is it a poor excuse, insurance would be more for a younger driver and companies are on tight margins

At the end of the day, you may be able to pass your LGV at 18 but that does not necessarily make you mature enough to handle a loaded lorry.

I am not having a go at the younger drivers. Just making an observation… Tin Hat On !!

Are these jobs working directly for the company in question or paid through a third party such as an agency ?

These are working directly for the company. I spoke to the transport manager yesterday, a guy we trained for C+E. They are fed up with agency drivers who have too many accidents.

I did not ask about the 25 years old limit but probably guessing insurance reasons.

Only 1 board member has made contact yet and hs details have been sent on.

Here we go

Not a poor excuse from the insurance side of things as yes it is ridiculously high.

You’re another one then, there are plenty of 18 year old drivers with Stobart etc and actually most of their incidents come from the older drivers with more experience. I have a few friends who are 18 and drive artics and they’re all incredibly sensible drivers, like myself. The guy that was in my lessons with me thought he was a boy racer and he was simply just too heavy with the power coming out of corners etc and the instructor told him he risked greatly endangering his test result because of it, he was 24

Anyway, if you have a problem take it up with the government.

Showing your lack of maturity in your personal attack just proves my point.

I’m another… WHAT■■?

What has the Govt got to do with it

Personal attack? wut? I never attacked you personally. You’re just another one that has no faith in the younger generation really, i don’t blame you really because half of the people my age are idiots but you can’t brand us all with the same name and it aggravates me greatly.

Not going to derail this thread.

Wishing all applicants the best of luck

Is it not the government who approve the age restrictions on driving categories?

I’d say “yes” to that Sam.

However, the insurance companies to tend to tar the younger driver as being of a higher risk to them, and they say they do this on the basis of claims statistics.

My beef with the insurers in this regard is that they appear to do all this in secret behind closed doors, whereas IMHO the process of how they arrive at their astronomical premiums could be made a bit more transparent.

agree with you diesel its the insurers that tar people and file them into catogoreys my car insurance went up when i told em i was a driver there reason was i would not be used to driving a 5 door hatchback after driving a waggon all day
anyway good luck to anyone who goes for the job sounds like a decent chance

maybe but just because the government decide what goes on doesnt mean the actually know what they are talking about

No, but if they deem an 18 year old eligible to drive a Class 1 then fair enough it’s for no one else to question. There are some idiot youngsters out there behind the wheel the age of myself but even so, most of them are not interested in HGVs. Usually the two categories stay clear of each other some how.

I wasn’t going to get involved in this but I have to remind you that we the electorate put the government in power to run the country for us not to rule over us and we have every right to question what they do and the way they do it.

Anyway it wasn’t the UK government that decided that the HGV age should be 18 it was the bureaucrats of Europe

As for the insurance thing it’s been shown time and time again that the most likely people to have road accidents are people under 25 hence the high cost of insurance for the under 25s.

It would be interesting to see some real statistics to back that claim up

Back to topic, good luck to anyone who decides to apply for these jobs

If we have every right to question what they do and why they do it, clearly so many people have an issue with young drivers, then why don’t ‘we, or you’ try change that then?

It is a form of government all the same isn’t it?
