A New Low??

I had always believed that there was a ‘loose camaraderie’ between drivers. I wonder if I was imagining it… or is this really a new low?

Twice a week — for longer than I care to remember — I have done a drop at this location.

Twice a week — for longer than I care to remember — I have finished my drop then put myself on break.

On Monday things hit a new low…

About 5 minutes after I’d put the wagon on break another lorry pulled in. The driver looked at where I was parked and asked that I move the lorry because I was ‘blocking access to the loading bay’.

I pointed out that I couldn’t because a) I was on break and, therefore, couldn’t move it and, b) I certainly wasn’t blocking the loading bay… and, anyway, he had three to choose from — all of which were empty.

He then demanded that I move the lorry. I repeated about being on break and than wondered, out loud, why he appeared so desperate to get the lorry moved when he appeared to be spoilt for choice. He stated it was because so he was ‘on a schedule’ (aren’t we all?) and so that he could ‘get onto the loading bay’.

I pointed out that there were three loading bays and that I wasn’t blocking any of them.

He insisted that I was blocking the loading bay and that I ‘move the [zb] lorry’.

I, yet again, pointed out that there were three loading bays to choose from and asked what his problem was — he did, after all, seem to want an argument and appeared to almost be picking a fight.

All he could say was that I was ‘blocking the loading bay’ and I should “shift the [zb] lorry, you [zb].”

At this point I realised that it would be far too easy to drag the twerp out that cab and ‘have serious words’ so, with a shake of the head (and a serious bite of the tongue), I wandered off in the direction of the cafe for my usual coffee, soup and a bun.

Something happened then which I still struggle to comprehend: five minutes later my 'phone went. The driver had been on the 'phone to the depot and given MY boss a load of verbal abuse because, and I quote, “Your [zb], [zb], [zb] of a driver won’t shift his piece of [zb] lorry off the [zb] loading bay — and are all your [zb], [zb] drivers the same?”

I will leave what my boss said to him in reply to your imaginations.

I will also leave what I subsequently said to him to your imaginations.

What would YOU have done??

I’d have done the same as you, if you weren’t blocking a bay and were ok to take a break there then it’s his problem.
I’ll be honest, I’m a bit titsed off with ‘fellow’ drivers acting like [ZB]s, I just plod on my way and look after myself, don’t bother nobody as long as nobody bothers me.

People are ■■■■■■■■■ more at 11.

park iy on the bay that he wants then start another 45

I would have moved and restarted my break. Nothing winds me up more than a fellow driver taking a break in everyones way then playing the old… I cant move due to break BS.

The question is could he of used another bay?
2 places off the top of my head we deliver to at one we can only use bay 70 (there is over 100) and the other it’s either bay 22/23…even if all the rest are empty these are the only ones they will let us use even it it means having to wait if someone is on it.
So,if he HAS to use the bay you were blocking access to he has every right to be ■■■■■■ off imo,a lot of companies have signs up now telling you taking breaks is not permitted whilst on their land.

Nope. I wasn’t blocking any of the bays… and he could have off-loaded at any of the bays he chose to reverse up to.

I wasn’t stoping him in any way shape or form; the only thing stopping him was the thing between his ears.

It’s a low - but it ain’t new

If there really was space and 3 bays available, then the other guy is a ■■■■■

I find that “would you like me to back it on for you sonny?” Usually does the trick.

F-reds:
… then the other guy is a [zb].

Oh, trust me, I know that the guy is a [zb]. What got me at the time - and still gets me - is the fact he rang MY BOSS!!

Have a go at me; say what you like, I’m a big boy and can take the abuse… but ringing someone’s Boss■■?

I’d take your hand off if you offered to park it.

One man’s “blocked loading bay” is another man’s “slightly awkward reverse”.

I have to say squealing to your boss is an all time low. What company did she drive for. Any pictures.

I hope it wasnt our ‘Dozy’ stressed out after going the wrong way…

May be he wanted you on your way so no one could see him make a pigs ear of putting it on the bay, so he was just shy

Lemme guess… He’s on 4hr29m and he’s only confident he can get onto the bay you are on “without a shunt”…

A man who knows his own limitations clearly.

I reckon most people, myself included will automatically go into “won’t ■■■■ on irate in-your-face-driver if they caught fire” mode when spoken to in a displeasing manner by said driver.

Be careful of those who’d put a brick through your windscreen the moment you disappear around the corner to the canteen though…

Especially if your tractor is a Scania. :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

Though I think he was a total idiot, but its good your boss backed you up

I think you should have gone had a word with the warehouse guys, as you’d got such a long standing relationship with them, and asked them to tell him to wind his neck in

So,You didnt understand that he could switched on Your Bay on Break without disturbing the Operation?

^This.

Clearly the other available loading bays prevented a reversing challenge beyond this bell ends capabilities. :unamused:

He couldnt though . . he was on break.

I don’t understand tbh why you didn’t just move considering you had only put it on break 5mins before, would it have been that much hassle to move instead of trying to have a discussion with someone who swears every other word and im assuming raising their voice each sentence.
