…can be a dangerous thing, but it could also be expensive.
Last Sunday,I was stopped by plod just outside Spalding. He asked for my digi-card and put it in his card reader. Then informed me that on Jan 1,I drove for 8hrs 40min without taking a 45min break.I knew this was wrong,as I try to keep myself as legal as possible and certainly wouldn’t do anything as blatant as that.
Fortunately,I do a print out every day,so produced the one for that day which clearly showed that I stopped for a break of 50mins after 4hrs on duty(of which 3hrs 38mins was driving time). After a further 4hrs 48mins on duty (of which 3hrs 37mins was driving time) I had a break of 2hrs 1min and after 2mins driving (getting onto a bay at Morrisons Eurocentral) had a further break of 1hr 55mins.Did a further 53 mins driving then my shift ended.
Now I make that a total of 8hrs 8mins.Where did plod get 8hrs 40 from? He reckons that because of my “lack of digi-tach training”,I had inadvertantly left it on something other than rest while taking a break
Didn’t cut any ice with him when I pointed out that my tacho defaults to rest when the ignition is switched off and said the print out must be wrong as he was reading the info direct from the card
He was using a Stoneridge Digifob Pro,I believe.
He then told me that he couldn’t do anything about it as the “offence” was committed on Jan 1 ,but if it had happened on the day he stopped me,he would have given me a FPN for £200,payable to him on the spot
With that,off he went.
I have a feeling that he didn’t really know what he was looking at while reading the card,so maybe his “digi-tach training” is a little suspect

If that was the case it wouldn’t be showing as a break on the printout. I suspect he may have been a trumpet.

The printout is simply a hard copy of the stored data, it won’t be different. My suspicions of extreme trumpetness are growing stronger.

Thought so, he’s a Total Trumpet. The fixed penalty notice is a conditional offer and as, according to your location, you live in the UK the deposit doesn’t have to be paid on the spot.

Agreed, sounds like he is a complete [zb]ing roaster. Why can’t I get pulled by trumpets like this?
I could have so much fun, and probably get arrested.
You didn’t get his details did you? If so you could always report him for trying to solicit a bribe by saying you would have had to pay him money on the spot, that would be my next move.
You wouldn’t get anywhere but it would be fun and likely cause him some inconvenience in the process.

No cameras.
Police at times can be a pain in the pooper, Police when they dont know the job they are trying to enforce are not only laughable, but dont give you any confidence in their ability to serve and protect.
Only used my digi card a few times before stopping work and have never been stopped for it checking.
so, when plod puts the card in his reader does it show
a) all the details for him to read
b) infringements only
c) both
Maybe pull your own cam out and ask politely if you could film the procedings

This is what Highlander thinks the copper was using
stoneridgeelectronics.info/p … obpro.html
Seems to read and display pretty much everything.
Just curious, thanks.
Got pulled by plod a good few years ago, whilst using an analogue tacho. He asked to see it, and here is the following conversation…
Plod: Where have you started from?
Me: Wantage.
P: Where was your first pick-up?
M: Lambourn.
P: Well, that should have been what you put on your tacho.
M: Why?
P: Because that’s where you started work.
M: So I could leave Scotland, and pick-up in Bristol, and that would be where I have to start my tacho?
P: Ummmm
As CH has said, Trumpet

Superb.
Other favourites are ‘banger’ & ‘spanner’.
Anyone else?

Trumpet used in this context is the funniest thing, i will now start using daily, I meet plenty so I don’t see it as going to be too hard!!

I’m from Spalding and I know of a the few coppers, I can just imagine (from how you’ve described him) who it was!! Complete Trumpet!!
Are enforcement supposed to even remove the digi card once inserted, surely they should use a control card and a downloader?
