It’ll come in handy if I run out of bog roll.
Got mine today. The paper isn’t very soft.
Though I do like the way it says Dear Sir/Madam. Got to love that personal touch.

The fact that it is the RHA signature on it annoys me.
Got mine as well. ■■■■ the RHA.
Yep, got mine this morning.
Got my reply typed out too:
Dear Sir/Madam,
For the last 20 years you and the haulage industry have shafted drivers in terms of both pay and conditions. You didn’t show much concern for us when it was a race to the bottom, brought on by the over supply of cheap labour from wherever.
It was always a case of “if you don’t want to do the job, then there is the door. Close it on your way out, and someone else will take your place within the hour. Here is your P45, goodbye”.
Now the shoe is somewhat on the other foot. It helps me none as my life has moved on and I have no intention of taking a backward step. Never say never, but until there is a DRASTIC improvement in pay, and even more so in working conditions, you can shove your lorries where the sun don’t shine.
Love n stuff,
A fully qualified, 10 years experience, valid CPC, could do a shift tomorrow if I wanted, HGV driver. ■■

Nothing other than seeing a rainbow with “thank you truck drivers” would do for me.
Here you go…
I was happy to get it.
I thought my road tax was due when i saw the envelope on my door mat!

I’m reading that, but in my head I’m hearing this…

I’ve just changed my car, and DVLA won’t process my application to cancel my old road tax…
I’ve already set up a new tax for the new vehicle, but with no one to speak to @ DVLA - I’ve resorted to cancelling the direct debit, and hope they’ll now moan, to have me point out that I’ve already had the old car crushed, here’s the certificate of dustruction, and I’m not bloody well paying further road duty on a car that no longer is present on this PLANET - thanks very much!
According to Radio 4 and BBC 5 live, there are somewhere between 40,000 and 50,000 HGV licence renewals caught up in the backlog at DVLA. Some may be able to drive under Section 88, many won’t be able to. Why don’t they address this if they need drivers?
Got my letter today, as I imagine did thousands of others.
Folks like me who received it and are not driving are not driving for one or more of a variety of reasons. This letter did not change anything for me and I suspect is unlikely to do so for most others receiving that are also not currently driving.
It would be funny if it was not such a waste of taxpayer money and a rather futile exercise. Feels like a box ticker - ‘well, we asked all the folks who could drive to come back and drive’.

“Well we asked the folks, and they said Leave” - and we sat on that one indefinitely as well…
A short-sharp shock of leaving the EU by the end of 2016 “six months to end all ties” - would have caused less damage to our economy and our health - pulling up the drawbridge that way - than what we’ve all gone through since, regardless of one’s politics.
To this day, Remainers still bang on about wanting to Remain - more now because of the current suffering that has got nothing to do with Brexit other than the Establishment’s unwillingness to hit it head on with a semi hard semi truck…
Winseer:
Meanwhile, back in the real world - increasing numbers of yards are now using section 88 on a “Block book” basis to get their expired-licences (myself included) back to work.:
So you can work again? Good news!

Good news for you perhaps in that I don’t post from work, and never have…
I got my invite to return to “trucking” this morning, I will return it with a list of terms ,I am 72 still work a little but in order to work i needed to have 7 medicals, two lots of driver CPC …I would like the money back for those items, and not to be made to get those silly little cards dreamed up by some companies that entitle you to work for them…I do not need fors now but they can dump that also ,I will not do 15 hour spreads or take lunch in a factory or room where a driver sits waiting to be unloaded, I want the driver facing camera out,I will not stay out where I can not get a nights rest or a shower in the morning and a clean toilet.I would like to addressed as MR .Last but not least no one gets the keys to the truck…is that OK

I just simply cannot imagine making a life decision to take up a profession again on the back of a mail merged letter from a government department.
They must be dreaming.
The signature of the RHA won’t help their cause, what on earth have they done to make the job better for drivers over the years? Talk a good game but achieve nothing for drivers. Total waste of space.

Now that you put it that way…It is rather hilarious indeed. They mentioned also something along the lines of ‘‘pay and conditions are rapidly improving acros the board’’ which is of course a fantasy. THe only pay increase is for agency drivers and even that may or not last for much longer, I’m looking at those tens of 1000s on the DVLA waiting list

I have one as well, I am 68 years young, how desperate are they?
I think theyve sent a letter to everyone under 107.

Lot of those will be renewals tho. Plus new starters. I think we are in for a shortage for years yet - you dont turn this round in 3 months.
I think they should scrap dcpc and make it voluntary ,do it if you want then get a little badge like in the scouts , same with all the toy town cards that the big companies want to make you have
