A. K. Worthington - Manchester Trafford Park

I have to admit that would be brilliant, should know in the next couple of weeks. There’s me and 6 other people who have an interview. Management know my situation with driving and have done for a while (been making a point of keeping them updated :grimacing: ), and I know some of the lads who have an interview don’t have any licences at all but for me to be successful, well let’s face it, that would be too good to be true. I don’t even need the sodding course, just transfer me to transport

In my experiences, if something seems too good to be true, you know the rest

Just a thought ,Tarrman have you tried Swains at Astley ?
They can’t be far away from you, I’ve no idea what there like to work for but they strike me as a good general haulage firm.
Jim

No never gave them a thought. I have heard of them and Astley is only up the road. Cheers will give them a go

You’ve also got Bodens (wood recycling) on your doorstep, you’re in a very good location there.

Bodens drivers always seem happy and cheery. Always immaculate too.

dont touch them with a barge pole either :open_mouth: but if you’re into a lot of varied work :sunglasses: 52 mph in [zb] wagons and carp money :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: fill your boots :bulb:

The boss was on the Radio 4 post budget World at one broadcast, which you can probably hear on iPlayer.I only know 2 things about this company1) Their building was the original Ford factory in Great Britain2) They are all Manchester United supporters

that cant be right supporters of utd usually come from further south dont they

quite funny as over 50,000 season ticket holders live within a ten mile radius the last time they checked! :open_mouth: you listen to too many little Siddy fans  who live nowhere near Manchester :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: as we sing to them " bitter noisy neighbours, you’re just noisy bitter neighbours " :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: what’s it like living in Norfolk, ipswich123? :sunglasses:

Already one step ahead  always see their wagons about from huge bulk tippers to very tall top heavy wag and drag, think I may of seen a few walking floors aswell. Pretty sure their wagons are big Vovlo FHs’ too. That would be nice :sunglasses:

As for the location it’s one of the things I researched before I took the plunge and spent £2.5k on my licences. There seems to be an endless list of haulage companies in a 30/40 mile radius. I hear newbies saying there’s no work in their area but I really dont have that problem  Well I do to an extent as its not as if there’s loads of good driving jobs out there, especially for a newbie like myself, but I certainly have a few avenues to explore.

Im bringing this post back from the dead. Ive just been for an interview at AKW and on first impressions it doesnt look like much but after the interview i actually quite liked the place, decent kit, been offered night trunking for nearly 11 pound an hour cant complain about that seeing as though its my 1st class 1 job.

Ive only passed my test on Monday and found work in 3 days. Ive rang round agencies and even though on their advert it states they take on “new passes” they actually dont they need a minimum of 3 months experience. Had an argument with one of the friendly agency staff that it shouldn’t say new passes are welcome to apply it should say “3 months experience minimum”.

That’s agencies for you…it’s all lies with a lot of them. They are killing this industry.

I dont think a particular agency will be having me on their books put it that way even if i had 2 years experience, after my phone call with them haha.

Does anyone have any previous experience with them? Or any information on them?

I’ve been invited down for an interview on Friday, was just after a heads up.

Got an interview with my work (Iceland) on the 26th too regarding their warehouse to wheels programme. Its like waiting for a bus, nothing for ages and then 2 come at once :open_mouth:

TARRMAN

How did you get on at your interview today■■?

Thanks for asking

I’ll be dead honest, I went there, saw the state of the place and didn’t bother. Maybe my standards have been set high by where I work now but it looked like the kind of place that ate drivers for breakfast. The yard was a mess, old shabby trailers in the yard (there were 2
dotted about that looked well kept) but I’ll be honest, I had a gut feeling that I wouldn’t last 2
weeks in that place and being a new driver with a wife and kids I need summat a bit more
secure. Maybe it’s a cracking job and nice and secure wages etc but I followed my initial gut
reaction. It looked NOTHING like it does on the website. Being a new driver some would say
that I should be grateful for the opportunity and a fool for walking away, but Ill be honest, I
can be fussy as Im in permanent work, and I know I can do better. I have a few fingers in
other pies at the minute so I’m not at a complete loss.

If you are looking for a steady class 1 drivers job in Trafford Park I would give the container boys ago, I cann recommend Debens on Barton dock road next to Kelloggs, also Kerry’s at the same site and turners at the Container Base and BCD at the Base. Its steady work mostly day stuff with occasional night out money is pretty much the same everywhere £25k, if Mon-Fri don’t suit you try Maritime they’re looking for 4on 4off drivers. But honestly A K Worthies is probably the worst job in the park. Good luck in your search mate.

In hindsight, maybe I should of gone and spoke with the guy, might of been the best decision of my life, but I’ll take my chances. If anyone wants any info for them them PM me and I’ll pass on contact information for them regarding jobs. Personally, I’ll give it a miss. On a plus note I popped into my local Norbert Danglybits and picked up an application form.

Where abouts how do you get to Barton Dock? (Daft question!)
