A. K. Worthington - Manchester Trafford Park

If you have to unload your wagon at the end, will they train me on the forklift? Just a thought. Should be easy enough as I’m a reach driver now.

I think I’ll still go to the interview and ask a few questions, its not as if I’m obliged to say yes. I can put it all towards my experience.

roughyed:
I worked for them on the Agency about 3 years ago, and a worse firm you couldn’t wish to work for. Drivers treated like s h i t.

+1

Worked there a few times on agency, hated the place, hated the office staff, hated the warehouse staff. Eventually got myself banned from the warehouse and never went back after that.

That’s the entrance - not available on streetview, basically right on westbrook road and follow to the end, turn right and it’s in front of you.

I’ve also done Iceland and out of the 2, Iceland is MUCH better.

Cheers Wayne. Not got much optimism for this interview

You don’t actually unload it yourself, just drive into the warehouse, pull curtains back, and its unloaded by the FLT drivers.
On one occasion I was there, the FLT driver was taking the last pallet off, a rather tall one, sat behind the trailer bulkhead on the N/S. he got the forks under it, lifted and as he went back a bit to quick, it all tipped over onto to the trailer floor. He walked off, back he came with the Warehouse Manager, and I was told by him to repack it. Told him " Like ■■■■■■■ I am " He replied " its your fault it went over through your bad driving " I told him it was the FLT drivers fault, it was upright when he went under it. The WM went rather red,( I suspect he was mad cos it wasn’t my fault), I just stood my ground and said I wasn’t getting involved with it. So the Forkie got a few mates to help him repack it while I stood there.
The next time I went , was a 7:30 start, did one delivery, back in for 9:45, then sent home. They signed my time sheet for 3 hours pay.Rang the Agency and told them I wasn’t going there again. Apparently they were running out of drivers to send there, and shortly after, The Agency dumped A K worthys.

DON’T TOUCH WITH A BARGEPOLE :sunglasses:   :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

The boss was on the Radio 4 post budget World at one broadcast, which you can probably hear on iPlayer.

I only know 2 things about this company

  1. Their building was the original Ford factory in Great Britain

  2. They are all Manchester United supporters

Didn’t he sell the warehouses nearest to the swamp to the Stretford Rags and lease them back?

All the bad points aside, would anyone agree that it would be an ideal way to get my foot on the ladder with the chance to gain some good experience, or should I hold out for something better?

That’s a good common sense approach mate, if its what is available to you take it,get on the ladder and then look for something else if its not right.

All I can say is, go for the interview and if all seems ok ( pay and conditions etc) give it a go, once on the job you can make your own mind up, hopefully all will work out for you, but if not keep your ear to the ground and somthing better will always turn up.

that cant be right supporters of utd usually come from further south dont they

That’s what I thought (they are the most northern of the North London football clubs), but when my stepson wanted to go to see InterMilan, I took him to Old Trafford (marginally cheaper to go to Manchester than Milan). I got the tickets and a parking space in their yard, through a contact who got them from someone at Worthingtons. Worthingtons is or was a (small) sponsor of Man Utd.

Does anyone have any previous experience with them? Or any information on them?

I’ve been invited down for an interview on Friday, was just after a heads up.

Got an interview with my work (Iceland) on the 26th too regarding their warehouse to wheels programme. Its like waiting for a bus, nothing for ages and then 2 come at once :open_mouth:

Thanks for asking

I’ll be dead honest, I went there, saw the state of the place and didn’t bother. Maybe my standards have been set high by where I work now but it looked like the kind of place that ate drivers for breakfast. The yard was a mess, old shabby trailers in the yard (there were 2 dotted about that looked well kept) but I’ll be honest, I had a gut feeling that I wouldn’t last 2 weeks in that place and being a new driver with a wife and kids I need summat a bit more secure. Maybe it’s a cracking job and nice and secure wages etc but I followed my initial gut reaction. It looked NOTHING like it does on the website. Being a new driver some would say that I should be grateful for the opportunity and a fool for walking away, but Ill be honest, I can be fussy as Im in permanent work, and I know I can do better. I have a few fingers in other pies at the minute so I’m not at a complete loss.

In hindsight, maybe I should of gone and spoke with the guy, might of been the best decision of my life, but I’ll take my chances. If anyone wants any info for them them PM me and I’ll pass on contact information for them regarding jobs. Personally, I’ll give it a miss. On a plus note I popped into my local Norbert Danglybits and picked up an application form.

Think you made the right decision there m8
Don’t think i would last 2 weeks there and i have been driving years…?
good luck in the future!!!

me too i woudnt ive been driving them for thirty years lol

Thanks for the votes of confidence

Don’t get me wrong I know there’s plenty of bad driving jobs out there and I’d probably do most of them, but it looked a bit cowboyish to me, I could imagine getting the sack pretty soon and I can’t see them being patient with me.

If i was you m8 i would put all my effort into getting on the road at Iceland
