A Few V8 530s

No mate, the black one has been black for at least a couple of years, prob longer, so the one you saw at Huntingdon wasnt from this yard. The only burgandy one in the yard is the G cab tag axle with stacks.

The Tasker motor that I remember was a 6 wheeler tag in a kind of purple with a pin stripe or two.

That 4 wheeler is a smart looking motor and when clean black can’t be beaten.

I know the interior layout of a 4 series topline isn’t the best but I’ve always hankered after one but never managed to get one.

Not much chance with my lot unfortunately but with no nights out and trucks double shifted it would be wasted anyway.

We could do with a 530 V8 though. The 440 V6s we’ve got pull really well at weight but you can always use more.

Cheers

Was it this one by any chance?

On the subject of scania v8’s, and their awesome soundtrack, I’ve just watched a filmclip of a most extraordinary V8 T-Cab which appears from the video to be longline as well, pulling a cement(?) trailer with some kmind of blower apparatus on the back.

In fact after a couple of watches, the trailer is almost as interesting as the tractor unit!

Corcheela, thats Mick Durrants motor, he does a bit now and again fo HC Wilson. Dont think hes got the tag axle anymore, but he has got a 144 midlift. Its got a good number plate if you see it. S3 OVB, (530 V8 )
neilf, the cab layout isnt the best, but with the King Of The Road cab with the big lockers, it has got plenty of room. And those V8 engines of theirs are awesome to drive :sunglasses:

kindle, does martin minshal still pull HC’s trailers?

jj, the last i heard of him, he was packing up and moving somewhere warmer, will try to find out at weekend, but pretty sure hes not around anymore.

Chorcheela - That looks very much like the motor I remember.

Maybe I’m confusing myself but when jj72 mentioned Martin Minshal maybe that was the name on the motor. It was 5 years ago and the memory ain’t what it was.

Kindle530 - I know what you mean about the king of the road cab improving the storage. I’ve always loved scanias and would happily have one if given the oppotunity.

Mind I saw a series 1 XL globby yesterday that had been fitted out with the scania type of lockers in place of the top bunk and above the rail where the CB goes. Apparently the firm who does them advertises in one of the truck mags and the quality looked good.

I was seriously impressed with the amount of storage available over standard and I don’t think the price was too stupid.

yeah mine neither neilf :exclamation: his motors were silver with lilac and grey stripes and metallic lilac chassis (?) and bumper etc - very nice  also on NL plates

Kindle, I was browsing this post tonight, and I thought about a 4x2 R series 580 I saw on Monday at Catthorpe roundabout (A14/M1 jct). It was UK (east anglia) reg’d, a 52 plate I think, all in black, with massive tanks like the ones in the pics above, but no signwriting at all. Seemed to be on larger than normal wheels too. I’ve seen it a couple of times recently, first at Bury on the A14.

Second time it was pulling a 40’ container, can’t remember about the first time. It’s obviously not one of Mike Taskers, but from a similar part of the country. If I can see it again I will try to get a pic.

Euromat, I saw one Bristol a couple of weeks ago, owned by a firm called Charles Russell International from Cheltenham. The Parris motor in the pics was obviously bought from them and had the signwriting removed. (Bought presumably because Charles Russel run LHD). The one in these pics is an older one, and without the signwriting. In their full livery, they look pretty respectable, they’re obviously a firm which looks after their vehicles.

I tried googling to see if there were any photos or a company website, but alas no. They’re based out of a farm so probably not a massive operation (Lorryspotting claim to have them on their fleet list, but I’m not a member)

yeah its ex charles russel, its what karl is driving now!! i saw him at felixstowe docks the other night, i was doing a changeover for a mate of mine in a 470 topline and he had to fire his up to make me jealous(which didnt work karl!!!)

it was a bit of a private joke i guess esp the bit about a christmas tree!!

For all your Charles Russell needs:-

I can’t remember the reason why now but I looked for it before and it took some finding through google.

You two can relax, you’re not going senile. It was Martin Minshal’s motor with the “530V8” number plate. He had two of them, this one was driven by Jeff Darby and the other by John Conneely. When they were sold on, John’s motor was subsequently written off by its new owner, in France I believe.
They were replaced with two more Scania’s, one of which was purple, with Martin Minshal on the headboard.
When Martin sold up, these two motors went to Mike Tasker, and became DNZ 6774 and DNZ 6775. It was 6775 that was originally purple, and has the same driver on it for Mike as it did for Martin

Martin sold up and went to live in Australia.

I do have some photo’s of 6775 when it was purple, which my daughter took in Swiss, but if you think I’m venturing into her room to find them, think again. I’ll have to wait until she comes home.

Sorry for rambling on,
Hope it helps.

"Irish"John is still driving it now. I will try to get some mor epics as i now work in that yard driving the Xmas tree.

just looking at a photo of BH-SZ-87 an FH12 lowride unit loading furnace parts at Tamworth for me back around 1998 for (i think) Sweden - had Martin H Minshall on headboard and looked the business

jj, I think Tasker bought that of Minshall, and gave it the customary black paint job, and if we ask euromat nicely, he may be able to get a pic of it now, as Tasker sold it to Trans-Am.
