A Drivers Life

How do some people go through life without ever understanding the concept of ‘each to their own’? Its not hard to comprehend really, for those of you struggling it means we all like different things. For instance I would rather rip my ear drums out than listen yo a full Status Quo album, yet many love them and I wouldn’t start shouting at them telling them they are wrong to like them, because they aren’t, they get enjoyment from it. People hate the idea of tramping, I get that, and I also get why they don’t like it. Fair enough. But some of us do, so that’s the job we do. This doesn’t oblige others to do the same as Lorn Tractor said, indeed, you shot down your own arguement right after by saying trampers are in a minority and that in 40 years you’ve had 4 nights out. Most people tramp because they want to. Its hardly something people are forced into against their will.

So why don’t you all stop being so judgemental of others, concentrate on living your own life in a way that makes you happy and stop trying to force your views on others, because the tone that Lorn Traka and Nightline take means people don’t listen anyway. You do have some valid points but people don’t listen because of the way you deliver them, not because they don’t want to. Now if either of you wanted to talk about the issues try dropping the forceful arrogant ‘IM RIGHT LISTEN TO ME’ attitude and you may find people start listening. As it is you simply get back what you put in.

^^ couldn’t agree more.

With tramping you do not have to commute to work. You do the daily checks.Off you go.Some drivers commute fifty miles a day before they start work. All this time eats in to a 9 or 11 hour daily rest.Plus the expense of fuel and running a car.
I have sat all week waiting for a load on a beach while the punters next to me have paid to be there.
On weekend breaks i have found medieval villages.Life is what you make of it.
If you want to sit in the cab for 45 hours that is your agenda.
Just because you are parked on the motorway the gate out of there is a world waiting to be explored.
Mix with the locals.Soak up the atomosphere.Enjoy an expresso soaking up the sun.
Take Freds in Coslada for an example. The Brit drivers sat in the cab all weekend. But for a few quid on a train or bus Madrid centre is ten minutes away.

Its easy and convienient to misinterpret what the op is pointing to, you’ll need to, to defend your job and dubvious tramping honours, the job of hgv driving in the EU/UK overall if you’re asked to tar it all with the same brush you’d have little option but to brush on a liberal coating of excrement, some of you are not only your own enemies but by being so are the enemies of thousands, what you are willing [stupid?] enough to do obligates others having to do, working in an employment arena where you face the prospect of having to ■■■■ and ■■■ into bottles and bags is faced by what other industrial workers in the EU 2013 on any sort of regular basis?, no other truckers in the western world are subject to such hidious over regulation that they can be forced to toilet like dogs because of impacts by regulations, with other regulations housing drivers like dogs, you’re one hell of a sucker believing an EU sleeper cab is anything but a friggin kennel on wheels, dont take my word for it though, have a glance at the truck cabs in the real western world.

Drivers are as gutless as the easy imposition of the dcpc proves, a great advert to EU despots of how childishly easy it is to tramp over ‘tough truckers’, have you ever thought what inspires those socialist turds to churn out their fanatical ■■■■-like dictates?, its down to drivers being divided and spineless which ensures you the ‘many’ can be ‘raped’ by them the ‘few’, as easily observed as it affecting wages resulting in compared to twenty years ago you’re on no better than half pay, and whats with this different scenery crap?, jesus wept does telling the bank manager what views you’ve seen get you a bigger mortgage?, in all my life I’ve yet to see any scenery that registers as being worth paid less wages for driving past it.

With working hours and hygiene levels of Dickens time and fighting to retain your right to be ‘at odds’ with other industries having cleaned up their acts, just how low are some workers expectations in life?, just how easy are you to satisfy?, a chromed up, curtained up, cushioned up kennel on wheels with an array of pointless lights attached, for wages that you dare not mention, like the hours worked themselves.

Oh yeh sorry to upset any awfully thick tramper held opinion but TNUK is not a trampers, night outers, nights away closed shop, you are aware that the majority of drivers DO NOT do nights away, complicated I know for certain drivers to comprehend, let me spell it out you are the odd ones out, on many levels, not those who go ‘home’ at the end of every shift, on that basis maybe trampers should think to zzbb off from the site, the ‘isn’t life wonderful fairyland club’, as deluded rose tinted spectacle wearing trampers becomes vomit inducing over the years for others to observe, try looking at life in the cold light of day occaisonally.

I’ve made shed, truck and train loads of money from driving over a forty year period, there are plenty like me who have done just as well and a lot better and like me have avoided long hours and nights away like the plague, four in fourty years not one in a ‘cell’, your voluntarily entered into lowering of basic human rights, I’ve not heard of prisoners toileting into bottles and bags whilst doing 80+ hour weeks which would upset the EU commissioners along with prisoners being ‘banged up’ overnight in a cell of your size, is bound to be a subject for disscussion amongst ordinary drivers who dont want what your willing to do affecting their working lives, bizarre as that might register with you professionals, carry on living your trucking dream, it registers to me as a trucking nightmare.

Lorn Trakta…all those words…what are you really trying to say ■■

I’ve my own feelings on doing nights out and as a result I don’t do them and am not interested. I’d do an odd one here or there if needed and it meant I could do a Scotch or proper North of England where I couldn’t do it in a day.

It’s not really my place or anyone else’s to start lecturing to others about it though.

You may as well going knocking on doors trying to convert people to a religion, you’d be just as welcome doing that.

Lorn’s post is the best post ever on here.He speaks the truth and some do not like the truth.
He is correct that drivers are spineless and no back bone on how we are walked all over with new rules.
We had the chance. But did nothing except moan at Rdc waiting room.
When log books ended and tachos were brought in we missed a chance to change things.
The same with speed limiters. In my opinion they are dangerous.Who gave permision for the super market trucks to be set at a lower limit.
One day a serious accident will happen by somebody going up the back end.
All because a twit in an office is saving fuel and it looks good on his flow charts and graphs on his wall.
My Scania 142 had no limiter.I did not crash and die.Fully freighted over foreign mountains it was safer. One day Brussels will tell you to drive wearing a hard hat and like sheep we will abide by their rules.

So true Toby, well said.

The French drivers on many occasions caused havoc and chaos grinding the country to a halt,no food in the supermarkets, no fuel delivered to the garages so the car drivers could not even get to work, no aviation fuel for the airports, nobody was flying anywhere.
The weak UK drivers did nothing to get things changed to the better, the UK government brought in emergency legal powers to stop truckers doing a road blockade to protest against the rising fuel price increases.
The DCPC is a waste of time, you do not learn anything on the course, it is a nice little earner for all involved.
I am leaving trucking and going to get a commercial pilots licence that I will pay myself at Bournemouth International airport.
If you hear this is your Captain speaking at 30,000 feet, and think that is the nutter from TNUK, too late, you can not get out of the aircraft until I have landed it.

I don’t think anyone is saying you should not sleep in your cab but why should you have to park in a layby, I no you have everything with you but if you do need the toilet in the middle of the night you have only got the hedge no matter what you say, you may be on rest but it is not free time you are stuck with the truck. My wife works for a large company with about 60 trucks the drivers are on a 58 hour contract she is on 35 hour for about £2000 per year less, they do 3 to 5 nights out per month for £21 per night she has to travel to bases in company car doing 1 night out per month for no pay but she gets a good hotel not cheap one with evening meal plus breakfast paid for so maybe better than driver. When in factory she gets free drinks and meals drivers have to pay for there own unless in yard at the right time. Why should drivers be treated so different

Yet not long after Toby appears to point out how it can be a good job…he appears to agree with whoever has posted last

jesus wept does telling the bank manager what views you’ve seen get you a bigger mortgage?

Yeah 'caus getting a bigger mortgage is the be all and end all to life isn’t it? You ‘keep up with the Jones’s’ if you want to. I don’t. I’ve nothing to prove to anyone. I want happiness, not an ever bigger house just to prove to the neighbours I’m doing well.

Ok so we have people that think any one who sleeps in a wagon is an illiterate, obnoxious and retarded oik. That’ll be me then!

Personally I think the lowest common denominator in the truck driving world is any one who says “going up Scotch” or words to that effect. Does my napper right in.

But that’s my opinion, we’re all different.
