A driver's life

According to an article in Truck & Driver a study found truck drivers twice as likely to be obese and more likely to smoke than adults in general.

The same study claims 88% of HGV drivers suffer from high blood pressure, obesity and smoking related problems putting them at increased risk of developing heart disease.

In general I don’t think the job encourages a healthy life style.

Heart Research UK is funding a scheme in Kent to recruit drivers through haulage companies and give them free blood pressure, heart rate, weight and BMI checks followed by three follow up visits to advise and help. Employers will receive a free training day to give them the tools to create a healthier workforce    I can see that being really popular

Keep em coming, some great menu ideas there. Mackerel and beetroot one I will try. Although my in cab version maybe just a tin of mackerel with beetroot mixed in.

I always have a jar of baby beetroot in the cab, great for that quick snack and for rubbing on me ■■■■■■■ obviously.

My son is trying to do meals which can be cooked in cab but some can be prepared at home in advance and will keep in cab fridge for days if it is a decent one. All the above can be adapted to suit your own tastes. All oily fish nothing wrong with the tinned fish he says. Just get rid of the oils and brines in them.
He also suggests for snacks make up wee cartons of nuts (walnut brazil are the best for optimum health not too many at a time and seeds such as sunflower sesame etc. If you fry anything use butter not oils Kerrygold is best as it is grass fed butter.

He is not a believer in using white flour for baking so has a nice banana bread to make at home with no flour at all in it. You or your missus could make a batch of this at home He made one for me and it is to die for. If yourself or your missus likes baking try coconut flour instead of white flour makes great healthy buns and cakes Banana pancakes made with no flour either they are delish. I am just waiting on him to send me the recipes for these. He makes them for me so I need the recipes.
He is devising some more easy healthy cheapish recipes for lunches and dinners but you will have to be patient. I have eaten all the above in the pics and enjoyed every mouthful and I am a fussy eater. So get cooking and enjoy the food

I don’t work any more but I might have a go at some of them. They look good, and I luuurve beetroot. It’s the only root I get nowadays. :frowning: Thanks Volvo2

Mediterranean style salad with chicken, mozzarella, roast cherry tomatoes, peppers and red onion, olives spinach and mixed leaves.

When I passed I decided that I wasn’t going to start those bad habits. I’ve been doing good couple of days here and there where I haven’t made my lunch after a long day. I struggle to get to rugby training due to working hours but play matches as often as I can.

VOLVO 2 Pressure cooker cooking, i did it 1980/90s mind you there are a lot of jobs about, blokes do not need to cook,to be honest is there any hard work in driving now-days .when you were ■■■■■■■ goods =hand ball you needed all the crap food.

I’ll go along with that.

So you suggest they don’t cook good nutritional food or don’t cook at all just buy the usual crap. The nature of the job mostly sedentary and many away all week sleeping in a tin can should not bother to cook good healthy fresh food. I don’t understand your reasoning there.

eat what you like, and die when your ready…whats the point of dragging out your last Cpl of years as a pish riddled wheezing geriatric being a burden on your family if you have any? every morning I start with my only excersise routine of the day…up 1,2,down 1,2,and then I put on the other sock.ive stopped eating anything ambient coming through Europe now as it will most likely be covered in flipflop juice from whoever we`ed on it when they were hiding in the trailer…I wouldn’t imagine any of the supermarket chains wash the fruit/veg ec before displaying it for sale…have you noticed your apples or lettuce tasted a bit salty recently? :grimacing:

I have, can I count that sodium count as good? :open_mouth:

But I have to agree to the point that i’m buggered if i’m going to eat lettuce and hate living just so I can extend my life.
I’d rather die happy and having enjoyed it!
Now hand me that cheeseburger!

This is what I had last night

Don’t do what I once did and that was to put the hot frying pan down on the plastic battery box cover whilst I heated up a pan of baked beans !

I have taken up skipping, but haven’t done any this week as I left my trainers at home :frowning:

Be better if it was deep fried.

No spicy chicken and no lashings of sauce. I don’t see chicken pakora or chips alongside either.

Disappointed.
