A bit of honesty?

Just been reading a question about pay rates at Fowler Walsh. So I read they are paying less than 8 pound an hour for night rate .Jesus.

I am a truck mechanic, work nights, bank holidays,5 nights sun to thursday 15 quid an hour.
Drivers where I work (different company) 13.50 (roughly)per hour,shares,6 months sick with pay, discount on company product, etc.(bleat like fuuu.)

Is this the norm or is it Fowler Welsh?

you see their drivers ARE so grateful they have a job that they will work for those rates. :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

I wont work for a company that only pays such a small amount above minimum wage. What wih all the extra hassle and stress plus additional costs of your licence up keep. This is whyI found myself a job as a yard shunter, cos it pays better than most local haulage companies.

yep thats what im after

Well my Brother in Law is a night fitter for a large bus company and they only get the same rate per hour as the day shift guys so not everyone is paid extra for nights. He has been there for 20+ years so if folk are happy with it then so be it, there is always going to be some on more money than others and that is a fact of life otherwise everybody would be content with their job and nobody would ever want to change companies. :unamused: Some folk work for companies who they like and the money side is secondary, others are ‘chasing the Dollar’ and loathe the job and the people they work for but stay just because the money is good. I worked for a company where I was approx £5 grand a year down on other drivers working for different firms who were running side by side with me, but no way would I have jumped ship. Each to his own.

Pete.

OMG!!!

You mean they pay less than Stobarts??!!

What is this world coming to?? :unamused:

To be brutally honest there are quite a few companies paying circa £7+pennies per hour for nights.
We are getting royally shafted since the enlargement of the European union!
It would seem that we are heading for Soviet style pay and conditions and pretty soon will be offered weak cabbage soup and a slice of black bread instead money

This, this, a thousand times this.

Nights should be 30% more than days.

Weekends should be time and a half.

The standard working week should be 40 hours, with anything over that paid at time and a half.

Your wages should be your hourly rate x the time spent at work. Night out money, fuel bonuses and meal allowances should be extras, not a means of bringing a low hourly rate up to something halfway decent.

If all of the above held true then it wouldn’t matter that firms were only paying £7.50 an hour.

Eg a Monday to Friday day driver doing 0400-1400.

Forty hours basic = £300
Ten hours o/t = £112.50
Fifteen hours dark money = £33.75

=£446.25 before government theft.

Sadly too many drivers have traded away their rights for a couple of extra days holiday, or an extra pound an hour on the basic rate leaving us in the dominant flat rate for all hours culture we now have. And with the race to the bottom for rates being driven by agencies there is no turning back the clock. The few workers who still enjoy these benefits are derided when companies try and remove them and they fight for their rights.

Some drivers would be overpayed with cabbage soup and black bread

SHYTOT:
Some drivers would be overpayed with cabbage soup and black bread

Very True!

SHYTOT:
Some drivers would be overpayed with cabbage soup and black bread

This is true and since the “Some” are now a significant minority it is reason enough for all of us to be worried.
This is a race to the bottom!

Too many east euros. That will be a fair rate for them. The problem is “whats a good rate for them is a bad rate for us”.
