£7.00 per hour!

3stepsaheaduk:
In certain parts of the country that might be about right, and much depends on what the hours are, if thats for a 42/44 hour week it isn’t too bad as its about a tenner an hour straight through, if its the mega POA fiddle that many companies encourage and a real world 65 hour week then its crap.

How does it work out at a tennner an hour?

You’re quoting my post from another thread.

edit…i beg your pardon…it is this thread my mistake, if you read my previous post again i was answering another post where a job was going grossing roughly £500 for a weeks work incl 2/3 nights out.

This is the post i was answering

quote ‘‘There are lots of low paid jobs out there.
A company a good friend of mine works for (He’s QC manager) are looking for a tramper. Out 2-3 nights a week on fridges.
10 year old kit. £500/week gross.
And the boss thinks that’s ok money.’’ unquote

£7.50ph can be a fine wage - if you get to spend many of your hours either going home early and/or getting your head down at work on top.

An 84 hour week involving you being on duty a mere 35 hours works wonders @ £7.50ph…

It’s the ones “salaried” for a limited number of hours which always ends up being actually 84ish at work that I feel sorry for.
You don’t laugh at the slave. You feel sorry for them. :exclamation:

how short sighted can some drivers be??

i,m on 7.50 per hour, to most of you i,m an idiot…

well i chose this job over another that paid alot more, tbh i left the better paying job for this one, even more stupid eh??

well no, i work 5 mins walk from my home, i,m home every night in my bed, nice home cooked food, good quality family time…
no car that i have to pay for, no running costs, mot insurance fuel ect, no travel time maybe the trampers should look at how much it costs to run their car for it to be parked on car park for most of the week…

i,m way better off financially and benefit from more family time and proper relaxing time at home then i would be doing the better paid job…

You are either a wind up or an idiot. If you’re the latter, god help you if you believe your [zb]. You don’t have a car because you can’t afford one.

Hilarious, you earn £7 p.h so you can’t afford a car ,it’s getting a bit stupid now ,those on there 12/13/15 p.h ought too just think there selves lucky ,and just get on with there life’s and leave the lads on £7 alone ,there doing there best with what’s available job wise ,they don’t need well paid drivers taking cheap shots at them :unamused: :smiling_imp:

Just seen a job posted on here for £7.00 per hour , for class 1 general haulage work , seriously do they expect to get quality drivers , or is it me being a bit naive ■■?

Had £6.50 the one Company and with overtime up to £944.-/Week
They will pay break and everything during other pay higher but no extra and little Overtime.

If your only on a basic of £6.50 per hour I don’t see how you can get £944 for the week even with max hours.
I would love to see how you work that one out ?

£7.50ph even if you don’t run a car doesn’t make up for it.

I am home every day, don’t really do much more than 10hrs inc breaks which I get paid for. Costs me £6 to go to work. Don’t come back with the tax, insurance and MOT bollox because virtually everyone has a car so you’ve got those any way. Bet you didn’t sell your car when you changed job did you? No. So the only thing you have saved is a bit of petrol money.

So on £11/hr for a 10hr shift I earn £110 compared to your £75. You’d have to do another 3hrs to equal what I get which is far more than my day is including the commuting time. So not only am I home every day like you are, for you to earn the same money I’d be at home more than you are.

Last night I did a parcel company night trunk so I got my head down a fair bit and a 84hr week doing that could easily end up being 35-40hrs of work. But I’d be doing it for £920 a week, not £630.

Oh and I live in one of those “certain parts of the country.” There’s work for £7.50/hr if you want it but those firms are all advertising for drivers because they’ve left to go earn a tenner an hour.

One day the penny will drop. You’ll be sat at a RDC or a hub with a load of other drivers looking around and thinking that they’re earning at least a couple of quid an hour more than you to do exactly the same job. You’ll sit there doing the maths, work out that doing the same hours they’re earning at least £4,000 a year more than you just on a basic 40hrs and you’ll start to think what you could do with that extra money. And you’ll do that every day and it’ll wind you up more and more and hopefully you’ll leave and find somewhere paying better. The more drivers that do this the sooner we get rid of hourly rates lower than Tesco shelf stackers.

I must be living in the twilight zone. The rates people are saying are ok in this thread are ridiculous.

still, Fair play if you can make it work for you, i certainly couldn’t.

babysitting for friends on a satdy and sundy night gives a boost to the wage :unamused:

Sounds like right barrel of laughs after a weeks graft

Conor:
TEF in Scarborough is paying £7-£7.50 an hour, some drivers are paying to buy their own PPE and for some reason drivers leave a lot and those who start don’t stay very long. Their job advert on the job centre website is starting to become one of those permanent ones. The rumour mill says that apparently they think they’re one of the best to work for in the area.

They probably are seeing as though there’s hardly any haulage company’s in Scarborough and Bridlington and Whitby areas.

i sold my second car when i started my current job, my wife uses the only vehicle a nice 3year old landrover discovery thx

I plan my own work within reason, i dont do night work (like connor, that mentioned night work which should be paid at a premium)

my employer treats me like a human being and not scum, i dont do RDC,s have no TM ■■■■■■ no warehouse ■■■■■■ no customer ■■■■■■ no other drivers ■■■■■■ no motorway ■■■■■■ no planners ■■■■■■

judging by majority of comments on this site i,m sure alot if they were honest with themselves would like the same?

or perhaps happy being treated like a piece of ■■■■■ just for a couple of quid more?

money isnt everything, if your happy with your lot then fine, all i,m saying is dont knock the guys who do this sort of stuff until you get to know the facts…

Not being funny mate but if you are not doing RDC’S, warehouses, don’t see customers, or other drivers and don’t go on motorways then what exactly do you do?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^

no blue card needed either.jpg
:stuck_out_tongue:

delivery to farms with a product that we make, closest i get to a motorway is touching A1. majority of farmers (customers) i already know,

your lucky the wages have gone up so much :open_mouth:
i can remember going to what i guess is the same company your on about and being offered £3.62 per hour days but it was ok as i earned £5 every 4th week on nights, or big money as it was called. I was also taken on a driving assessment unit only by a fitter prior to being told the rates!

was offered a nice new eurostar which was polietly declined.

went to wincanton instead for the mega money of £5.56 per hour (this was late 90’s).

the joys of the north east!

Well said mucker : )

conor look at this this way, you earn £35 per shift more then me, £6 travel so £29, that little bit extra paye so lets call it £26 quid, + other running costs which i dont have as yes I did sell my second car which as worked out at £50 per month saving, so lets say £1.50 so your £24:50 better then me per shift… you work nights which should be paid at a premium so maybe £10 per shift more for night? leaves £14:50 per shift better off then me so lets say for the week your £75 better off then me . then take your commuting time away from it? so the actual works hours of roughly 11 a day at the end of the week your not much better off in money terms then myself and having to work shifts to get it…

i could walk into a job tomorrow that will match your pay and maybe even beat it, will I? no way, been there and done it and the time i get to spend with my family and kids now is worth a ■■■■ site more then a couple of quid an hour, not taking into account the less hassle ect… will it last? i dont know but i will stick with it whilst it does, ok when kids are grown up I may look for something paying more, but whilst it works for me i will stick with it, as at the end of the day i,m only concerned with my lot.

I don’t count myself lucky, I’ve worked for the same company since I was a kid. I can think of god knows how many other jobs I’d do for £7.00 p.h, but driving class 1 is not one. I’m not taking cheap shots, but driver’s are working for cheap wages.

Sorry, but I don’t agree. £7.50 p.h is and alway’s will be a ■■■■ hourly wage. You should never feel sorry for anyone work wise. Working 35 hours out of an 84 hour week doesn’t happen anymore. Ghost docket has long gone.
As we both know, everyone need’s to get Unionised.
I once had a female employee from my collection, moaning that we were going on strike in a few day’s time. I said to her “If you were the only person on strike in your company, I wouldn’t cross your picket line” She had no idea.

We pay £10 class 2 it is *hit work mind, all local min 40 hours per week, 48 hours paid at £10 after that rate is offered, driver takes it or not, tipper never gets OT rate, poop a scoopas do, max £15

dle1uk:
so lets say for the week your £75 better off then me . then take your commuting time away from it? so the actual works hours of roughly 11 a day at the end of the week your not much better off in money terms then myself and having to work shifts to get it…

£75 a week is £3,900 a year. Are you saying that you earn so much that you wouldn’t benefit from an extra £3900 a year? Takes me just over 20 minutes longer each way to get to work than you so not really that much more.

And yesterday I went to a farm. Difference between me going to a farm and you is I was on £2.50/hr more.

I have recently changed jobs took a pay cut by quite a bit but I dont travel as far so that makes a big difference

Not hard my wages are based on 10 hr days ( if do more get a bit more ) 1 day last week worked 7 hr will still get my usual pay yep I am salaried but dont mind the work we do is easy no stress no hassle home every night

But up here the pay is alway has been less than the south that is where the divide comes form
