£60 fine! (MMTM)

The best I’ve heard yet is from a driver I have the pleasure of working with and he says:

You need to fill your washer bottle up every day from now on because VOSA pulled his mate and because his washer bottle wasn’t full to the top and took half a litre of water he got a £60 fine! When I said how did they not know he’d used half a litre since filling it that morning he just look confused! I’m totally amazed that someone that is able to drive a 44tonne waggon is also able to believe such bull{zb} :open_mouth:

So be warned lad’s, DONT use your windscreen washer as the bottle can never be more than 100% full or you too will be £60 lighter :unamused:

You don’t need GCE’s you know to drive a 44 tonne wagon. :bulb: Besides, it could be true, theres more than a few jobsworth in vosa, nature of the job.

It isn’t an offence to have an empty washer bottle.

No worries then as I doubt anyone will ever fill it more than 100%

It is an offence to have washers that do not work, if the bottle is empty they would not work so it would then be an offence.

From my next door neighbour who is a traffic cop, it’s a fixed penalty for non-working washers.

Ha ha, well spotted, meant can never be LESS than 100% full

This is not about the bottle being totally empty so the law on having washer’s not working does not come into it. He says he was told the bottle has to be FULL and his mate got the fine because vosa could fit half a litre in it not because it was totally empty

Maybe not but if you’re stupid enough to believe this without questioning it then do you have the sense to drive safely??

Unless it’s a bus on local services…

If your car is parked on a main road and washer bottle empty you can get fined if plod checks ur car As its an mot failure something along those lines anyway. People have been done for it, not mmtm

Ok how’s this then. Took Land Rover for MOT, when tested the washers worked but the valve on the headlight washer stuck open and emptied the entire washer bottle onto the floor. Still passed though.

Probably something along the lines that the headlamp washers are an ‘extra’ and not ‘mandatory’ or something…or maybe he took it to the place i used to take my old Sierra yers ago!!

If you can open the front window like a Jeep or Landrover Safari, you don’t need washers, but I think the offence is failing to maintain a clear view.

i got pulled in a 18t by blackbushe market and i got a probation notice for having an empty washer bottle

i dont think the monkey with the toffee hammer checking the nuts helped by saying i had loose wheelnuts even thou they wernt

Did they check the nuts with a torque wrench? If not there is no way on earth they can legally issue a ticket for that, I know a hammer gives an indication, but for an offence to be commited then a torque value under the manufacturers recommended limit would have to be proved and you can’t prove that by telling a judge that it went dong instead of ding

It does make me wonder about some drivers I may start carrying magic beans to sell to these drivers who come out with this.
