Just drink plenty; you can keep the bottle topped right up then.
I wonder exactly how many people pay these ridiculous fines, or let them pass unchallenged.
In the case of the washer bottle, I hope the driver checked exactly what was on the paperwork before signing for it.
I wouldn’t be suprised if the VOSA tried to issue a fine for ‘washer bottle not full’, but wrote on the ticket ‘empty washer bottle’.
The latter would be a ■■■■ site harder to appeal in retrospect, whereas the former would be very easy to appeal.
Right enough, getting argumental with the VOSA at the roadside isn’t a good move, just accept what they say and appeal it later. But for Christ’s sake, make sure the paperwork is completely accurate, and don’t accept anything if it isn’t.

I doubt very much that there ever was a fine, it’s yet another BS story made up by an idiot but my point is how amazing it is that someone would actually beleive it

It does make me wonder about some drivers I may start carrying magic beans to sell to these drivers who come out with this.

i got pulled in a 18t by blackbushe market and i got a probation notice for having an empty washer bottlei dont think the monkey with the toffee hammer checking the nuts helped by saying i had loose wheelnuts even thou they wernt
Did they check the nuts with a torque wrench? If not there is no way on earth they can legally issue a ticket for that, I know a hammer gives an indication, but for an offence to be commited then a torque value under the manufacturers recommended limit would have to be proved and you can’t prove that by telling a judge that it went dong instead of ding
no torque wrench he just used a little toffee hammer
he didnt like it when i got the wheelbrace and 10ft scaffy pole out and the nuts wouldnt budge even with 3 of us jumping and pulling on the bar
but the div made me drive back to the yard at not more than 30mph and he said we had to get it mot tested even thou it was mot excempt as it was a showmans truck
What happened is someone has been fined for an empty tank then it has went through 10 drivers and this is the story that comes out the other end.

It isn’t an offence to have an empty washer bottle.
It is i got a £30 fixed penalty fine about 20 years ago for it being empty on my car !
The washer bottle is full, it is -12c and the washers will not work. I doubt they do on the police car either
What happened next?

They tell you you should have bought some Aldi screenwash additive -the one that still works at -20 (or is it -40)?

sorry officer. I am under 18 and the shops will not sell me any solvents

He says he was told the bottle has to be FULL and his mate got the fine because vosa could fit half a litre in it not because it was totally empty
If that were me (if it had really happened) I would use some water from the water bottle I carry with me. I have done it before and will again. In winter I usually carry more than the usual 2L bottles anyway
If that was anyone who wasn’t a complete GONK they’d politley decline the VOSA’s offer of a fixed penalty.
Can’t see it being true, myself.
Perhaps the bottle was empty, and driver told his gaffer it was half full.
But I just don’t believe someone has taken a fine for not having a full bottle.
