…but because it’s called road tax…

It’s not called Road Tax.

I hope this helps.

It is called road tax in common language.

Call it wtf you like but it doesn’t make it right.

orys:
But it helped: you proved my point. No matter, vehicle tax, car tax, road tax - everyone knows what I am talking about.

Yeah, but it’s none of those either, in fact it’s not called a tax at all.

It’s not important how it’s called. This is exactly my point. If you can tax foreign vehicles, just rename it to vignettes and everybody will be happy (I am also pro-charging foreign vehicles for using your (or any other country’s) roads).

That’s seen as discrimination against hauliers from other EU countries and is illegal under current EU law, so without a change in EU law cannot be implemented.

FTFY.

You’re welcome.

Thank you, it was an incorrect choice of words on my part

I can’t see why an “entry visa” for any vehicle with a foreign number plate woundn’t work as part of the customs clearing process at ports.

For trucks coming from EU member states there is no customs clearing process at ports these days, unless they are carrying goods from outside, not yet cleared into, the EU. You just drive off the ferry and straight out of the port unless you are selected for a random inspection. It’s been that way for years now.

That’s exactly what’s wrong with the system!

If you go through customs, and get waved straight through, you still get your passport checked? THAT’S the opportunity for a customs official to say “Foreign PLate - You gotta buy this tax disk Hombre!”
You notice at a glance if the windscreen is not displaying a UK road fund disk for foreigners duffing up our roads and otherwise paying nowt into the system.

Foreigners must laugh their arses off over the British way of bending over and taking it all the time! :imp: :imp:

The A2 is 100 yards from the back window of my house. I’d say there’s very few local hauliers left in my area - But there’s always plenty of foreigners running through! Many of the local operator license holders are based on the A228 corridor. The only one I know that’s actually on the A2 directly is Fowler & Welch at Teyham.

No thank you, no need to do that.

we should charge them, road tax costs, cpc costs, the current vat /tax rate we pay on fuel for every litre they travel…

roughly (best guess, i can’t be assed to do the sums) about a £1 per km surcharge, with there uk entry km and departing km logged at the entry/exit ports.with a discount if they actually buy fuel on our island, also the ability to speak english fluently.

that will slow down the flood,

Pound per kilometre  Say a French trucker comes in via Dover with a load for Glasgow and a return load from Glasgow back to the continent via Dover a 3 day trip in the uk with around 1500kms. That would cost about £1500  You do know there is no money in the haulage game as it is don’t you?

then they should get a uk haulier to take it north, I’m trying to balance the playing field a bit, and a 1500 surcharge, would make em think twice.

that will slow down the flood,

It would be fun when all other countries demanded their fluent language from British drivers. That would real help your haulage industry

that will slow down the flood,

and watch the sale of mgnets go up as all the foreign drivers shove a magnet on the speedo pick up or they just disconnect the sensor

I hope this helps.

Well it’s obvious you don’t know it’s a bit of a joke between tachogrph and me and nothing more than that.

Coffeeholic and myself on occasions corrected each others little mistakes, there’s really no offence meant and none taken, just a bit of banter as already said

Now how about we all get back on topic :stuck_out_tongue:
