I’m led to believe if you do 50 hrs or over they take half hour a day break from you hence 47.5 at £8.50.
No sick pay or cpc contributions, weekend work is rotation and you get a cf space cab.

They advertise every week!!

Constantly advertising. I know someone who worked there. Said they aren’t too bad just a joke of a wage, but he was desperate. On a side note… Where there yard is isn’t particularly hgv friendly neither. That also puts alot of people off.

Was about 7 years ago and money was worse then but I wanted a way out…
Looked an ok old fashioned firm to be honest

Fantastic news for the poorest and the people who earn the least.

Let’s be totally honest - HGV drivers are in a unique position. They can put hours in and earn even if it’s for 2 weeks work in a week.

Work in a shop, a cleaner or another minimum wage job and you won’t get that. It will be fixed hours and you are out. I get annoyed with 8 hour shifts. I either want them to finish in 5/6 hours and be paid for 8 or I want them to be 12-15 hours so I can make some money.

Plus as drivers, you are often getting paid for doing not a lot. I did 62 hours this week on paper. But 27 of them were either on break or on POA. Sleeping in a bed or reading a book. Try that if you are working in factory or in a store.

The hourly rate doesn’t have to be low either. Go drive for a supermarket and you will earn significantly more. You won’t get a 5 stepper or your own truck. But you will earn a decent chunk for reasonable hours and not be asked to do anything that’s not your job or dodgy.

The Amazon depots in and around London and the home counties and a bit beyond are showing posters claiming “our sortation associates are now on a minimum of £10.50 per hour”.

In other words, parcel sorters at Amazon (teenage Romanians) are earning, in some instances, more than class 1 HGV drivers.

Happy trucking!

Class 1 job must paid per shift but not per hours. If do this will be much less 15 hours shift. So much drivers taked time so much sometime. But after hate not self but just someone.

Respectfully - and I am respectful - if I am not sure exactly what you are saying: you think that drivers should be paid by shift rather than by the hour?

If so - sod that in its entirety. I do not choose my start time. I do not choose my runs. I do not choose to build shops with planning time restrictions meaning I have to wait for hours.

Aldi/Lidl offer these sort of garbage terms - and I wouldn’t dream of working for them. Pay me by my hours and a minimum of 8. I can justify every one on the tracker/microlise and am more than willing too. I can justify everything I do. I always hit my times after the earliest and before the latest. I am NOT willing to spend hours waiting around for nothing.

I do not waste time and try and game the system. I will do my job properly and to the best of my abilities. If I am questioned I will say exactly the same and ask for them to go through my microlise and tell me how I wasted time. But that has never happened - and if it did it would be my last shift there.

Well Andrejs I will let Eddie know that you want to be paid per shift, regardless the hours.

If it takes longer, it takes longer > yes it also means more pay for the driver but I‘m definitely not rushing around on hourly pay and neither on salary.

Drivers are their worst enemies > Some runs are planned for 12-13 hours per shift, but some very clever individuals always make sure they get the run done within 9-10 hours. Shortly after the planner notices that some drivers do the run faster > he/she will add more work on to get more revenue [emoji857]

This has the following consequences:
A) The drivers what do the run in the normal planned time, end up doing 14-15 hour shifts, run out of driving time etc.
B) The drivers which messed the times up in the first place start moaning about the workload, not enough time blah blah blah…

Of course some drivers stretching some runs out, but it‘s not down to us drivers to sort them out.

And there we have it in kind of English nutshell gentlemen…
Hard working go get em sort of blokes go hard and make good money.
Whiney complainy blokes who toss the job off get shafted.

Not unique to the transport business, there are duckeggs in EVERY business.
If you aint getting what you need from what you do, JUST GIVE UP and find something else, you would be suprised at the knuckle draggers lining up to take your place who think there on to a “good thing”.
I know I was and quite frankly, they are welcome to it and best of luck.

Just stop complaining, no one is listening and no one cares how hard you are doing it. We have our own problems .
If McDonalds is paying more than your current class 1 driving job, go and serve burgers cause YOU are part of the problem.

Actually lads I find it offensive to assume some blokes stretch up the job. Unless you are in their shoes you have no idea.

The last two shifts I did were VERY close to 15 hours - and I’d have loved to be home earlier.

One was due to clock change. Job said to do it to the ‘old hours’ but I had to collect a backload from the supplier. The problem was they were on clock time. And then I hit traffic. Didn’t even have time to diesel up the wagon.

The second one was due to loads of employed drivers calling in sick (18 but agency are rubbish(. I was put back 5 hours - meaning lying sleeping in the cab waiting for the trailer. Not because I prefer it to my bed but because I had no choice. Second run… well I could leave all the junk in yard meaning it’s a nightmare for drivers and getting worst, or I can agree to let them load it and have another monster shift.

I think very few drivers genuinely take liberties - and if they do management can see… But if there are planning restrictions I’m not going to wake everyone up and cause grief with my fridge to be a hgv superstar. Same as I wouldn’t pull into services at night with my fridge unless an emergency. Saving the company a few minutes isn’t enough to take liberties with someones sleep - be them normal people or trampers sleeping in services. Just my opinion.

I could be quicker if I had no consideration for planning restrictions, other drivers, and refused to take waste back which helps drivers long term. But I’d rather do my job properly, and treat everyone as I’d like to be. But that’s just me - I also take my rubbish out of the cab an if possible fuel up the unit for the next guy.

Maybe I’m someone who drags the job out. Or maybe I’m someone who does it properly. I sleep well at night either way.

I’ve never got this obsession with what others get paid :unamused:
