A new gearbox as well, be interesting to see how the fuel figures are, Euro 6 730s aren’t bad.

Driven most other V8s, looking forward to a go of one of these.

It’s already been said, you don’t “need” anything more than a 450, same as you don’t “need” a phone that does more than call and text.

Mostly Spain, life is much easier in a V8 than some Bobby Basic 450 that dies on its hole and is down to 30 mile an hour as soon as it looks in the general direction of a hill.

770bhp is an interesting choice of power output- you would have thought they would want to be first with 800bhp. There is no technical bar at 770bhp, as far as I am aware. I would guess that Volvo’s 6 cylinder engine is a bit stronger in the block than a V8, hence their marginal lead, over the past few years, but a few horses here or there is nothing. Volvo will, without doubt, release an 800bhp FH16 within months, and get a notch on the bedstead of lorry engine history. I wonder why Scania won’t steal the crown, even if only for a few weeks? Do VW have shares in Volvo Trucks, as well as Scania?

The Scania V8 already produces more than 1,000 hp in marine spec.The Volvo seems to be all out at 750 even marine spec. :wink:
7% less leverage than the Volvo but 33% more cylinders sharing the load.
A 154 mm stroke V8 is a formidable piece of kit. :smiley:

My guess is emissions nonsense in some way stopping them going further. I was surprised myself they weren’t at 800.

It could be the drivetrain, as I understand it that’s what has held back big power in the past. The marine V8 engines come out the factory over 1100bhp.

Whilst in the Volvo dealers, there was a gentleman there from Volvo Warwick, and he explained the reason Volvo have stopped at 750, is down to tyre technology, tyres haven’t kept up with the torque increase available, also the gearboxes will need some more strength,
