770s willy waving

Well looks like Scania have taken the lead with the New 770s… there willy is bigger than Volvo’s willy.

It’s on Instagram, can’t find linky for www.

All well and good but a 770 makes no sense for big fleet operators, their biggest customers.

temporary lead with their V8 in order to achieve what Volvo does with Inline 6.

there you go…

770? Wtf.
Do you really NEED all that power unless you’re on specialised heavy haulage?
I remember when you (in fact I) were ‘king of the road’ with a mere 143 450, with full posing rights.

How much will that truck retail out at exactly? :open_mouth: …and realistically who is getting the appropriate rates to justify it.

Call me boring, old fashioned or whatever tf you like in fact, but if I was given the choice between that and a top to mid spec decent motor with a decent cab, I’d be suggesting to the boss to give me the latter, save a few quid on price, and give half to two thirds of what he saved on it, to me as a pay raise. :sunglasses:
No doubt all the ■■■■ whits will be volunteering to drive it for minimum wage, but great to have if you work for a good firm on good money.

#noeffininterestanymore.

Only 3 posts before someone chimes in with the tediously predictable ‘what’s the point/no one needs it’ POV. No one needs anything beyond bog standard anything, from cookers, phones, TVs to trucks. More choice is always a good thing so just enjoy things and be happy that we have a great variety of choice because we are all different

That boring old clichè that doesn’t really have any basis in fact

Ok but why the selective editing to make your point, read what I said afterwards

C.mon Luke,.are you just bored and looking for an argument or what.
Whether you choose to have it or not, the fact remains that you do not really NEED it, in real terms for any type of haulage work other than what I specified as an example…that was my irrefutable point.
If you WANT it crack on, it does not alter the fact.

Rip out the seats and stick a 6x2 across the frame chassis and youl be good as gold. Pull al fuses that make electronics work as well.

Snip the electroic steering cable so you use your popeye arms to steer instead of 1 finger.

Chuck the microwave out disconnect fridge and youl be back in the 70s. Oh take the heater matrix out thats not needed. Pull the window buttons out and just stick a sucker on it to pull them up and down.

■■■■… remove the gearbox and weld in a big metal rod onto a manual.

Take the airbags off suspension and intall leaf springs.

Thats you sorted.

Or just dont be negative of the world spinning whilst you get closer to the grave.

Roger and out.

Yep that post would work if I said…‘‘Give me a 401 Seddon Atkinson anyday’’.
Thing is I didn’t :bulb: …so have another go.

770 bhp. Nice easy pull. Gradient uphill? Non existent. Fuel savings. Its well known that the bigger the grunt the less fuel you will use although people say different.

Sailing over the seven seas of the m6 would be a breeze in that new scania.

Flat to the matt. Keep it lit.

Because this is what I took issue with maybe? Not what you said next, this old cliche, the thing you actually said. But apologies for ‘selectively editing’ to make clear the point I was making, silly me

You criticise me for selective editing then reply with a post where you basically ignore everything I said in the post you quote.

…that was my irrefutable point…good job I didn’t refute it then eh?

Get a room you two. I reckon robwould be the husband luke the wife. And only saying that luke as ive seen you on video.

Yeh that’s more relevant to what I actually said.
Look I’d gladly have one tomorrow, and nice to have and drive?..Sur. :sunglasses:
The fact is I can not visualise a situation where I would need all that power to get the full benefit.
All the points you mention can be suitably achieved with a 500.
As for the ‘Flat to the mat/Keep it lit’ dog ■■■■ :unamused: …can’t speak for you, but I’ve kinda grew out of all that crap tbh.

Nice to know you’ve put some thought into my ■■■■■■ preferences, that’s not weird at all

Ok Luke, let it go.
We just see things differently that’s all.
Is this the right room for a argument?
I’ve told you once.
No you didn’t…etc etc . :bulb:

Scania has launched four new SCR-only V8 engines, including a 770hp (3,700Nm) range-topping flagship, which trumps the Volvo FH16 750 as Europe’s most powerful production truck.

In addition to being more powerful (530hp, 590hp, 660hp and 770hp), the engines are 2% more fuel efficient than their predecessors, or 6% better when paired with Scania’s new Opticruise automated manual gearbox.

Commenting on the new engines, which arrive one year after the V8’s 50th anniversary, Vincente Connolly, UK sales director for Scania (GB), said: “Our V8 engine has a tremendous following and these new models are sure to attract interest from operators across a variety of sectors.” While Connolly said the new engines are well suited to heavy-haulage and forestry work, he reckoned they will also prove ever-popular with long-haul operators who run at high weights for extended periods of time. “Then, of course, there are operators looking to make a statement with a flagship model for their fleets. The Scania V8 is an engine which definitely stirs the emotions, and the new range-topping 770 horsepower variant is sure to raise the aspirational bar even higher.”

These are sentiments echoed by Alexander Vlaskamp, Scania’s executive vice president, head of sales and marketing, who added: “I know that some of our customers will become extra heartened by the sheer joy and emotion of operating such a magnificent working tool!"

Sales will commence next month, with the first deliveries expected in February 2021.

For the full story see this week’s Commercial Motor, on sale Thursday.

From the 1250hp engines used in F1, they are bringing the engine size and power down whilst maintaining the speeds of the 90’s

So a V6 800hp engine is better than a Cosworth V8 or the later V10/V12 designs.

My own car is 1000cc, 3 cylinder and will do 118mph on the clock. its is only rated at 115bhp

I am not sure where it will end, but it certainly wont be simple mechanical engineering that a driver can repair whilst driving through the Taurus mountains.
