7.5 ton

Just being asked to go and drive a 7.5 tonner for the afternoon, it will not have a taco so do I keep a record or not bother.

You’ll need a logbook if you are driving it commercially and not just out for a spin.
But why no tacho?

Over 3.5 ton should have a tachometer fitted, should it not. All the 7.5’s at our firm do.

CORRECTED. Over 3.5 ton should have a tachograph fitted, should it not. All the 7.5’s at our firm do.

I was told it did not have one but don’t no, never driven one before. It’s about 10 years old if that matters

Some vehicles of >3.5t don’t need to have a tacho fitted.

This depends on the type of load or the type of operation.

:bulb: Where there’s a law, there’s usually an exemption. :smiley:

It will be commercial, i have never used a logbook before always been on taco will it have to be a proper logbook or just make notes on piece of paper

Or manually fill out a paper chart.

If the job is on domestic regulations you should complete a proper log sheet, if you’re driving to EU regulations you will need to use a tachograph.

If it’s a one off then do what conor suggests, use a chart and do a manual entry.
But if it’s long term i can post you one of mine. I used to go in every other week and say to a different manager, “I still havn’t been given a log book”. I ended up with a bit of stock. :laughing:

weight should be written as tonne or shortened to t
because the law is specced in metric measurement

Ton or T is for imperial measurements

metric = a short tonne
imperial = a long ton

anyhows thats what my dad says

I think that there will be a tacho in it somewhere.It might be above your head fitted on top of the windscreen or low down near the gear stick.If its fitted after market it could be anywhere.

Went to do the job moving plants from greenhouses to garden centres but it would not start so used transit much better than artic to turn round when lost. Going to be doing job for next couple of weeks with 7.5 tonner with no taco just logbook if I want to use it the driver last year never bothered so he could work more hours.

Sounds dodgy to me…if you value your licence i wouldnt bother.

Sounds dodgy to me to, for your own sake be careful and avoid VOSA checkpoints if you do the job.

If it definately doesnt have a tachograph fitted i would fill out manual entries on a disc everyday,at least if you did get a tug by plod or vosa you have something official to show them rather than a bit of paper with a few scribbles on it.
I personally wouldnt do the job as it sounds dodgy,not worth the risk,your licence at the end of the day!

whay reg is it

If it’s only 10 years old and it’s 7.5 tonne it is illegal not to have a tachograph…probably a bit late for me to say don’t drive it?

If it’s garden centres I would guess they’re using the engaged in horticulture no more than 50km from base no tachograph fitted exemption. Think you just have to make a statutory declaration to VOSA.

Had 2 days with van then yesterday given 7.5 tonner had look round for tacho and its in passenger foot well, man in charge never knew it had one. Glad really jobs easy only 2 minutes from home and they pay more than some class 1.
