I would say before getting to settled find out that there is a CPC holder and that the operators disc is current.They do sound a wee bit dodgy.

Checking the operators disc should be part of the normal vehicle checks, but I don’t see that whether or not the company has a legitimate current CPC holder is the drivers problem.
Anyway if they’re only moving their own goods they could be on a restricted operators licence
