7.5 ton horse box

Got stuck yet again behind one of those zb things again on Saturday am. my problem is it was doing more than 20MPH, it actually reached 35MPH at one point, & drove through gaps big enough for a vehicle twice its size with out hesitation or causing the other driver to take avoiding action.
I now feel guilty, it was obviously driven by someone not use to the 7.5 ton horse box code of driving.
Should I have reported it stolen.

Must have been the Norwich City players bus out for a day trip   poor little Delias dummies

Suffolk reeferboy attempted humour by saying " Must have been the Norwich City players bus out for a day trip poor little Delias dummies"

Would this be the same Delias dummies that trashed Ipswich twice in the same season? My take on it is all are clearing the path coz City are going up!! (And I think Ipswich aren’t  )

Never mind, Ipswich might get lucky one of these years… :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Alan - football aside - it must have been a man driving it.

Perhaps his young daughter had a day off ( 21 years old, with ponytail )

Or then again,may-be he was trying to catch up with his wife in the FH Globetrotter 500 + hp rigid (50 years old, with ponytail ).

Check out the horsey truckers, it’s all or nothing.

The youngsters clog up the A roads in a 15 year old 7.5 tonner, then you see their mothers in top spec, high horse ( excuse the pun ) rigids on the motorways.

Cheers ,

Niall.

There is a very big difference between a professionally used horse box with O Licence & drivers use to the vehicle size & the fools that drive 15 - 30 year old heaps to transport there own nags between pony club meets & hunts.
Example 1. A hunt was held from a farm close top a bus route I use drive from time to time. The hunt horse transport vehicles were in the main clapped out 7.5 tonners driven by people who could not get there vehicles past my bus, despite the fact every HGV driver I had ever met had no problem.
Example 2. Just before Xmas last year driving along a narrow country lane I passed another Class one, the 7.5 ton horse box behind me had real problems, despite the other class one not having moved.
Example 3. Driving along a country lane in a class one Ms dumb zb swings out of a side road, crossing into my lane despite there being no need to in a well maintained & reasonably competently driven vehicle of any size.
Being from Norfolk I am use to being held up by tourists in caravans, farmers in tractors & 7.5 ton horse box owner. The difference with the horse box’s is most of the horsey types who drive them are out of their depth in vehicle of that size & as much as I like vintage vehicles, I resent being held up by a vehicle incapable of doing more than 20 up the slightest gradient & driven some zb incapable of safely & competently driving it.

I was speaking to a friend recently who breeds racehorses.

I remember him saying that some horses can change hands for 2 or 3 hundred thousand pounds plus.

Maybe the drivers of these boxes are making the journey for their passengers as comfortable as possible ?

Also think ; the load must change sides with the weight shifting with every bend you go around.

Ladytrucker - ask the guys to reply WHEN they have carried horses.

They may just go back to the stable and say "Nayyyy "

Cheers,

Niall.

niall nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

a 7.5 ton horse, :open_mouth: that must have been massive! :sunglasses:

If the chevaux post is going to cause a problem,I’ll se taire !

(Sorry about the attempt at French, I took German at school!)

your french is nearly as good as mine and i live and work in france

Lets see what happens mate.

Untill then - bonne nuit !!

My hat certainly goes off to Ladytrucker, you can’t strap a horse down and not make it move, all it needs to do is shift at the wrong time and no doubt if your not used to it your in trouble.

I’d certainly give it a go though, i would imagine that you have to be quite considerate to your load.

Ah the wanderer returns! Sorry I didn’t answer your text but I was product testing my steel toe caps on the wheels of an ERF that was parked up on the hard shoulder of the M1at the time. :smiling_imp: Mission ERF body count is going well. :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:
Yes horses change hands for hundreds of thousands of pounds and yes your load moves to the point that they can panic, damaging themselves and the wagon and the driver is responsible for both, we do sedate some horses but we try to avoid this if we can. Horse boxes need your tolerance at roundabouts and direction changes, the average horse weighs approx 3/4 of a ton and is balancing that weight on four points the size of saucers on a moving floor so as I hope you understand that I think we can class the load as unstable.
When you add this up with the inexperienced weekend horse box driver then you can see why they hold you up as infuriating as they are, they will learn eventually.

Thank’s Tiggz and everybody else who has a little respect for commercial horse transport.
Oh and Caveman I am feeling quite tame today but there is no garantee’s for tomorrow the next mood swing is expected in approx 6mins!

Having, just a few weeks ago, witnessed LadyTruckers handling of a very large horse box coupled to a bonneted Scania I think it’s safe to say she knows all she needs to know about handling the things and certainly more than than most of us on here.

(That’s two coffees you owe me next time I see you on the ferry.    )
