7.5 limits in stamford Lincoln

Has anyone on here ever struggled with weight limits in Scotgate, Stamford, Lincoln area? To begin with, as I was about 20min away from my destination,I thought it quite strange that the sat nav took me all the way down the A1, and then took me off it to go back the way I had just come(North then back south if I remember right) I had a collection from a BP garage in that area and it seemed like every road I turned into was a 7.5 limit. I’m actually worried that I’m gonna lose my licence coz of the number of limits I smashed  . I even managed to go over a weak bridge and got a right bollocking from some old lady while I was stopped after the bridge banging my sat nav on the windscreen to stop it playing games with me :grimacing: . After my collection at BP my next collection was at Tallington petrol station just 15 minutes away from the BP but it took me 45minutes to get there coz sat nav took me a different route as it kept on bleating about limits. I was at the end of my tether lol. It’s kinda convinced me I need to learn how to read the map books, truck atlas etc. Maybe Mr Smythe and other instructors can offer up a course on map reading for newbies

Don’t worry , it happens to the best of us , Youll not hear anything , I’ve been on bus only route notts , 18t Leeds , tram line Blackpool ( car ,zb high kerbs to get off ) , weak bridge hull, if I’ve not done it nobody has , it’s just part and parcel ofbthe job .
Only one that bothered me was ripping up some zb posh garden when I took wrong turn ,luckily no one was about , never heard anymore
N.b bit of advice from driver who’s been there done it , if it looks dodgy , whip you number plate off before you go through limit

Wow. Just wow.

And you wonder why drivers are’nt paid more?.Well that says it all…

Dozy, you are either the biggest troll or the biggest muppet here.

No offence intended mate but if you can’t read a map you should learn, a driver who can’t read a road atlas is a bit like a chef who can’t use an oven :frowning:

Sat-navs are a great driving aid but there’s no way you should be so reliant on one.

Buy a road atlas and learn to use it, then when you have doubts about the sat-navs route you’ll be able to check

I just love it, both of em!
Dozy mate, I’m guess the OP is Class 2, so taking the number plate off is going to take a while, and possible some steps!

Defently. On my truck as its 14ft and the number plate is on top l/h corner

Afraid there’s lots of “pretty little villages” around Lincoln which translates as posh people who don’t like trucks, so an awful lot of unnecessary limits especially as apparently the A46 & A1 solve everything. Actually saw one today with no warning until you came to a T junction then all directions were 7.5T limits for no apparent reason - kindof stuffed unless you turn the truck around!

Quite a few around the city too, but those are mostly due to the castle and cathedral and probably a bit more legit. Even got a “no explosives” route although still not worked out exactly why.

If it’s where I think then I’d be asking for money back on that Sat nav…

Stamford is my local town, and it’s not an easy place to get around if you don’t know it. Basically it’s split in two and you can’t go over town bridge. For South of the river you’ve got two options ; a43 onto the old great north road or A1 onto the old great north road. The latter is easiest but both are doable. For North of the river there’s several options but if coming off the A1 easiest is come off at the Tinwell/Ketton exit. It will warn about a 13ft bridge but that’s going the other way. Alternative a606 or come off at Casterton. There’s no northbound A1 exit at Casterton but you cut through the Jet garage and use that as an exit… Alternatively you can drive from Bourne to Stamford Ryhall which will bring you in on Ryhall rd. This road if littered with 7.5t limit warnings for miles before Stamford but just ignore them, whatever you do you have to go through one and it’s a decent road for an Hgv.

TruckNavs do not work in Stamford, ignore them.

As to you OP the lesson you should have learnt is to ring ahead and ask. It’s no different to doing farms. When in doubt use the local knowledge of the person you’re delivering to.

Stamford is a nightmare for drivers, I go to Mole Valley Farmers, by coming off the A1, all routes in say weight limits and signs to avoid the town.
I went over the mediaeval bridge late at night in an artic , there is a tight turn but possible, but in rush hour not advisable due to locals abuse and finger waving .
Basically there are five roads off the A1, two south of the bridge are routes to avoid, the three routes north of the bridge artics can use but signage is marked up at 7 .5 ton weight limit .

We often go shopping to Stamford ( just down road from grantham ) , we normally come off exit after wool fox I think ,isn’t bp the garage on left just before traffic lights as you come down into Stamford ?, I’m thinking tallington garage is one on road just after railway crossing on left as you head towards m/ deep ing ?, if I’m right im struggling to understand why you’d go over the bridge in Stamford ,would you not do go ( if you did bp first ) , come out bp, down to traffic lights and turn left ,follow road to next t/ l, left and down to R/0 ,2nd left , down to r/o with morrisons in front take exit passed vw then hind march Peugeot garage out to tallington garage , if you went over bridge or turned just before you go up passed ford garage ( tch ) ,wouldn’t you ( if I’ve got the right garages  ),there is a weight limit though before you get to bp garage ,back up hill near the garage ,can’t remember though if it’s accept access.

Dozy I can’t remember exact route taken to reach BP once I had left A1 but I can say that after spending ages on tiny little roads trying to avoid the limits I emerged at BP and its was on my right side. I’m sure it’s the same BP you on about though. And when I reached Tallington station that was on my right as well before the rail crossing and I was facing the city centre. I have learnt my lesson though and will invest in a map book especially for Stamford. This muppet is thankful for you guys advice :stuck_out_tongue:

Lot of years ago , sure it was off 1033 , on way upto Driffield (sure it was on left as you go up ) , I’m sure it was 7.5t ( may of been 3 t just can’t remember ) , I was 18t , followed diversion as others did and took us over bridge ( I wasn’t the only one ).
N. B the road has Helsinki, Oslo, is it gala bingo on left so far up , that’s the 1033 I’m on about .
Was doing multi drop round hull area at time

Your not a muppet , don’t get taken in by 99.9% on here who apparently have never done anything wrong , they have , I’ve heard it all before , many times over the years and they get found out sooner or later .
If they were that bloody perfect they wouldn’t be driving trucks for a living would they :exclamation: :exclamation: :unamused: :unamused: .
Nothing wrong with admitting your mistakes , ■■■■ happens
Take it steady and don’t worry about other people’s opinion of you , I don’t loose a minutes sleep over it , water off a ducks back , neither should you

And Dozy, WTF? I’ve gone through some 7.5t and 5t limits in my time but how the flip do you manage to drive your car down some tram tracks?

Also you missed off the time you smashed a roof in.

I’d of thought it fairly obvious , signage was crap ,baby screaming in back and Mrs not dealing with it ,as for hitting a roof , let’s have the full story :exclamation: :exclamation: ,it was caused by some idiot in a dot . Com van parking in my turning circle

You don’t need a-z maps in this day and age. A smart phone (for google maps), a truckers atlas, and a trucknav is all you need. The BP garage would be on your right if you’d gone over town bridge - a 7.5t limit with no exemptions. You’re not the first and won’t be the last to go over the bridge, the EE’s do it all the time.
