Why do the artic boys drive in the width limit 6ft middle lane on M5, I’m in nearside lane were we all should be but the big boys come flying down forcing me over, and the cars in the fast lane cant get past them, because the lanes are so narrow.
I just dropped back in my class 2 and leave them to it, after nearly been forced into the metal barriers.
If you cannot read and understand the road signs, then you should not be allowed to drive let alone have a license
I was on m6 north in roadworks the other night. I’m at a standstill in lane one. Traffic in lane 2 was about 5 mph and a truck just knocked my mirrors in. No damaged just bent in. However when I caught up with numpty and both stopped side by side he wouldn’t even look at me at his mirrors were also bent. I think in these narrow lane roadworks trucks should only be in lane 1 as there are some people out there who can’t be trusted with a large vehicle.

I agree mate, that’s why they put signs up saying lane 2 and 3
6’ft Width.
The middle roadworks near Gloucester are a bit unusual, the nearside and middle lanes are marked up as 2.9m but many large vehicle drivers appear to just read them as 2m and stay in inside lane.
There are a few 9’6" areas about. All my point was is that no matter what the speed or width restriction done people just can’t be trusted to be responsible. I’m not saying I’m a perfect driver not at all but it seems that some drivers just go out of their way to be dangerous.
Roadworks seem to mess with people’s heads. Most car drivers seem to suffer from Outside Lane Syndrome and must be in it at all times even in traffic jams. Show them some cones and they want to sit in the middle lane doing 45.
Cones also seem to be a green light for truck drivers to ignore lane restrictions. Perhaps they’re too stupid to realise the penalty will be just the same as driving in the outside lane if they get caught.

Yup. Had one fellow lorry driver blasting his horn and flashing his lights when i overtook him there. Maybe he should have read the signs. Even says for wide loads to stradle lanes 2&3.

thought we still worked in old money ft and inches …
makes me laugh when you have markers at ? ? metres distance boards and signs at Miles, width markers in both ,depending who puts em out FFS why cant this country work to 1 unit of measurement

That has probably got something to do with the average age of lorry drivers. Virtually any sign which is only in metres mean SFA to me and many others I am sure. I know that schools have been teaching metric units for many years, but why should any driver have to start doing mental arithmetic to convert information on a warning sign? Filling station canopies are the worst. Every sign should be dual marked as should every trailer or vehicle.
So who can immediately and honestly say that they know by heart what the following are going to appear as in metric, given that you have just come round a bend in the road and are confronted with the sign?
the main problem with these width restrictions is the culprits know full well that if they are seen by vosa (or whatever they`re called) little or nothing will be said. Have a Drive in Germany and if the “no overtaking” sign lights up on gantry then NOBODY overtakes because they know if the BAG see them its a 200 Euro fine and a going over with a fine tooth comb. And thats on a 2/3/4 lane motorway
@cav551 : i know 13’4" is 4.05 metres, any higher and theres a good chance i wont fit under a bridge
Those roadworks are vey confusing. If you are coming south you can use the middle lane to start with until the very last section where there is a 6’6" width limit in the 2 outer lanes.
chaversdad:
Its happened since they introduced these width limits and it will continue happening, get over it, or take up a less stressful occupation
I’m not stressed mate, just wondered why other professional drivers ignore the width limit warning signs, and cause other road users hassle when they come steaming down in middle lane.

Not confusing for you, you just nailed it
Maybe that’s what they want, get people into the middle lane so they can ticket em. Just a thought

Prob because what annoys me! The idiotic dithering car drivers and others doing 40mph in a 50 zone who can’t read!!!
the worst ones are when they are doing 50 i the middle lane and it slows a bit so they slow with it instead of looking in their wing mirror and moving into the empty lane 3 and keeping the flow of traffic moving rather than adding to the domino effect
