60mph speed limit

A shell tanker came past me with a speed limit sticker on the back,
Motorway 60mph
Dual carriageway 60mph
Single carriageway 50mph

Who would set your limiter to 60mph?

Its not saying his limiter is set at 60 its saying what the speedlimits are for that vehicle on the different type of roads, ok your limiter is set at 56 but the speed limit is 60 , thats all its referring to

to be fair…its common knowledge over here that £100 sets it up nicely to show 56 when your doing 62…a wee different thingy gets it to 64…not counting the must make the boat buttons that are somewhat obligatory depending on who your working for…

Replies as above, however I would relish my limiter allowing me to do 60 on the empty M5 that I travel most mornings tottering along at 56 being overtaken by the odd aggregate artics and courier lorries…

I dreeeam of doing 56  , mines set at 53.
On hourly rate so not bothered.
I’ve found a way of getting 56 on the Actros tbh, (I am only telling YOU so say nowt   ) but that is a Saturdaymorning gethome facility.

If the speed limit is 60 why do we worry about getting overspeeds? (Okay so not all of us worry. Seen artic tippers probably doing 65 on big hills :open_mouth:)

Was the tanker ADR?

65 that’s nothing, I can remember once dead of night empty road A20 going down a hill ,(one of many near Dover) looked at the speedo, and it was nearly off the clock ,lol it soon lost momentum and slowed down again though , over speeds what are they :open_mouth:

Overspeeds will soon become a thing of the past, as my brand new daf has AEBS ( automatic emergency braking system ) as standard & adaptive cruise control & the brakes automatically come on when I hit 95 kph or if it senses I’m to close to vehicle in front so…if I want to overtake I have to pull out when I’m about 2-3 lorry length in front of me of the brakes come on to slow me down, also if another vehicle cuts in from to close, you guessed it…the brakes come on to maintain the set distance

Because an overspeed is when you exceed the speed the vehicle is limited to. By law it can’t be set any lower than 91kmh and will occur no matter what road you’re on.

But imo they’re not worth the infringement paper they’re printed on in this country as, like you say, our limit is 60. I’ve never had one but we get reprimanded for them at our gaff. I wouldn’t sign jack ■■■■ if I ever get one.

AEBS? wtf :unamused: Not more electronic crap to contend with.
What happened to the days when the Driver DROVE the truck not vice versa. :smiling_imp:

It’s a standard feature on new trucks, probably thanks to Brussels

All in the name of safety!

Crack on mine does 58mph, and yes I have an Irish surname
I did an overspeed printout out and found my wagon did 110kpm for 15 minutes or there about, more than once :open_mouth:

Do the brake lights come on when this thing kicks in then?
(Maybe a silly question on reflection.)
If so I reckon you will get a few coffee shaker signs from unaware folllowing drivers when they overtake you thinking you are braking for ■■■■ all.

I don’t know as only had motor since Tuesday, I would assume they do, also I forgot to mention that new Dafs have lane departure control as standard as well, which gets switched off straight away, but resets every time ignition turns off

Go on then :unamused: …wtf is a ‘‘Lane departure control’’ or are you just winding me up now?

I’d imagine it would kick in the exhaust brake to bring things back in line and to my knowledge the exhaust brake activates the brake lights.
