Of all days for this to happen, what do they do behind those mystical portals otherwise known as loading bay doors? How is it iv been on a bay 5 hours today, 6 hours the other day, with seemingly no movement at all I may need to walk a mile in their shoes and go get a warehouse job for a month
Simple…drive her on.
One friday i was on a bay for over 4 hrs,in the end i sneaked inside the warehouse to find my trl was empty but 2 lads were taking penalties with a shrinkwrap football in the back
see the “unplanned night out” thread for some tips, if nothing else it will pass a few hours
They’re using you as temporary warehouse space. A mate of mine was stuck for 7 hours at a place a few years ago and they were taking the stuff off one cage/pallet at a time. They were picking it as they needed it from his trailer.
It’s a catch 22 once they’ve started you, the only good thing was he could stay in his truck and was only 35 mins from home,

I really hate the fact that companies think it’s ok to have a truck sat being unloaded for hours, they booked you in you get there on time, you should be tipped quickly, 2 hours tops. It’s why I much prefer jobs where I can unload myself.

You know that sleeping bag you carry for emergencies…
Well leave it alone and crack on home, then make two print outs and write this on the back.
“Working time exceeded due to finding a safe loaction to park, which funnily enough happened to be my base…I realise this may be frowned upon but it is Christmas so please be gentle.”
Crack on after pulling card.
Unplanned night out.
Park and walk home.
Park and get a taxi.
Park and get other half/mate to get you.
Crack on then destroy card and set fire to truck.
That covers all the normal responses. -/Thread Closed

Actually, this is totally correct advice, except you should restrict it to the first ten words.
I’ve been doing this job for 28 years now and I have NEVER met a VOSA inspector who would expect you to have a night out 20 minutes away from home.
You could fly to New York, by the time they have unloaded the trailer.
Take a local out!

Meanwhile, on another thread, some people are saying that salaried is better than hourly.
Bless 'em.

Agree 100%. Was told (off the record) by a VOSA man that they would in fact be happier for a driver run over his hours by 15-20 minutes to get home and get a decent nights rest than they would for him/her to have an unscheduled night out. They wouldn’t be drawn on exactly how long you could get away with but I’d personally say that anything over the 20-30 minute mark would be pushing it.

I seem to remember from reading their advice on fixed penalties that they give 15 minutes grace, (but only as a one off, not every week, that might be considered taking the â– â– â– â– . )
But I’m sure if you ever got pulled up on it and were up front and generally your were pretty much staying in the regs, and you didn’t come across as a gobby ■■■■■■■■, they might just say don’t make a habit of it.
My experience of dealing with VOSA, DVSA the ministry or whatever they’re called this week is they’re human and they do understand the job and they really aren’t after the driver who gets in wrong once in a while.

Did you attack the card with a knife? You must of torched the truck as well. Got to get rid of the evidence.

Yea bang on,i found it funny aswell
I went 2 minutes over 4.30 drive time on Friday. I had a job the other side of the canal to do before finishing until jan 5.
I thought about a night out, but I could see my depot and thought I’d risk the arse ■■■■■■and 20 years hard labour for my heinous crime. I’m going to enjoy my 2 weeks off and suffer the consequences when we start back.
