50 on a roads

Surely if you’re doing 40 not 50 you have to do quite some mileage for it to make a difference to the length of your shift?

Even If we say the day would be 1/4 hour shorter, that would cost me a grand a year! That’s my holiday!!!

I’ll be sticking at 40 thanks.

And yes, I do pullover when I can!

You’re on £17 an hour and you’re worried about the odd 1/4 of an hour■■?

If the limits 50 you can still get stopped for not keeping up with the flow of traffic

This is news to me. Do you have anymore information about it ?

You will gain minor marks during your driving test for impeding traffic if the examiner feels you are too slow for the road and conditions.

He’s not on a driving test?
It’s a limit not a target. You wouldn’t get stopped doing 40 in a 50.

Not uncommon for tractors to get ticketed for having too long queue of cars behind without pulling over.

If the powers that be have decided 50mph is safe then so be it. Where does it end, why not do 46 on the motorway, 20mph in a 30mph or why not even crawl round the 20mph zone in Bristol at 10mph?

If the road conditions mean that a safe speed is less than the MAXIMUM speed limit then the figures you quote are perfectly acceptable.

There are many SC A roads in the UK where 50 mph in a car would be dangerous let alone in a 44T truck, there are also sections of SC where 56 mph would be safe, as has been said before speed limits are a maximum not a target.

Please read the thread fully, and see my earlier posts, as this was covered already, and is a response to assorted people saying they will continue doing no more than 40mph in all circumstances despite the law being changed.

Apologies!!

That’ll teach me to read the thread properly

Those truckers who chose to do 40 after the change will be found wanting.
As it currently stands the ‘‘40 brigade’’ hide behind the fact they are doing the maximum permitted speed limit for a A-road.

I do wonder sometimes how these “it’s a limit not a target, I’ll carry on doing 40” lot actually get to work everyday. Surely walking downstairs is too much of a health and safety risk for them, they must live in bungalows? I suspect they’re the sad lot who walk to the services from the lorry park in their hi viz, with bluetooth headset still on. The sort that “caution, hot” had to be stamped onto to takeaway coffee cups for their safety. Perhaps they should wear a cycle helmet when walking down the street, just incase a particularly acidic piece of bird faeces should fall onto their head? I would suggest they ride the special bus to work but they might get food poisoning from licking the windows.

i sometimes walk the services with my viz on, because i cant be arsed taking off my coat and it doesnt bother me, i do forty 42 on a SC to keep my licence clean, then when a glory trucker pops along doing 56 ill tag onto the back of him, i never lead the pack speeding it cost you money insurance and fine wise, box clever my son, as six points at are place means the can, this is the reason there a so many £6.70 and hour jbs accepting 9 ponits for all the heroes that gun it round every where, i just crack on dont drag the job out and get to my drop 10 mins after the 56 mob, if you wanna crack on thats up to you but i use my head about it

The odd 1/4, no. A grand, yes!

You get a disciplinary at my company if you get caught speeding in a company vehicle. More over, they just bought in a new ruling that if you get caught doing 20 mph or more over the posted limit, its instant dismissal, likewise, getting caught using a hand held device is also instant dismissal.

It’s exactly the same at ASDA.

So I take it that you would be quite happy doing 36mph on a motorway? There is no minimum speed limit to worry about so I would be interested to hear your thoughts.

I’ve done 36mph on a motorway loads of times, even when there is little traffic about. Snow, Ice , Fog.

I would. I drive to the conditions rather than blindly going as fast as I can.

Correct answer!

No one (I think) is suggesting that we all do 50 on a SC just because we can. If YOU feel safe doing 50 then go for it, just don’t drive at 40 to ■■■■ people off.

Yeah of course thats correct, but you’ll also have scenarios…driving along the A41 with a fully freighted double decker, and you’ve got someone running empty behind you. He’s always going to be irritated by your slowing at bends, frustrated at you not whacking it on the straight…

Its no bad thing in the grand scheme of things, just keep your nose clean and head down and everythings a breeze.

It’s very simple, the trolley dolly 40mph merchants just aren’t skilled enough to handle those higher speeds on a single carriageway.

Nobody is saying you must drive at the posted limit. What started this was George@ASDA saying he’d still do 40 regardless of the conditions because he didnt want to lose money.
