As with the NHS PPE debacle, its a good job Turkey was able to assist a third world country by supplying PPE when we needed it.
But that’s a circular argument because if we still had our textile industry rather than having outsourced it to places like Turkey, we would be more than capable of making our own PPE, and having it delivered to the places of need far more quickly to boot.
I agree that is the problem, we don’t manufacture much in this country and a lot of what we do is owned by none UK companies, Jaguar Land Rover is owned by TATA (India), Pilkington’s Glass is owned by (Nippon Glass) etc.
We are a service economy in the UK and a large source of our GDP comes from financial trickery in the City of London, this was Maggies great philosophy, let the old manufacturing economy die to be replaced with financial services and we would all live in yuppie utopia this created. This only benefited a very few and made some very rich.

When parking up an hgv is the road tax only refundable monthly or are they able to claim by the unused weeks ? Just wondered.
Under the current rules for road duty - you’d need to be pretty darned sure this lock-down is lasting another 9 weeks minimum - or you risk having to pay for the same month twice!!
(You pay for the rest of the month you are already in, and will still have to pay for next month’s - even if you un-sorn it on the last day of the next month…
Why bother?
Just sit and ride it out, and save your best mousefinger for something more worth-while…

About 8 of us were furlough on 31st march and trucks were SORND straight away and I don’t expect a call to come back till next Friday 1st may

That’'s the end of this week… Any sign that Friday is “Return to Work Day” bearing in mind the lock-down isn’t done with yet? 
…If the return to work doesn’t happen until after 1st May, you’ll be paying for the entire month of May tax-wise even if you end up returning on 29th May now…
My money is on the lock-down ending as of Tuesday 26th May - so returning firms don’t then immediately have to shut down again for the long bank holiday weekend (two in may) if returning to work earlier…
