I see both sides of the coin. My job during week is a fixed salery so im always eager to crack on and will overtake if need be. On Sunday I do agency shift paid by the hour Sunday rate slow as I possibly can and never overtake.

Yeaaa
I got stopped in Front of tsco Kings Link by a Man in a Mercedes complaining his Lorry stuck behind me since A14.
I was driving 38 mph and dont expect that i help doing illegal Speed,i saidWhy do you supermarket trolley drivers insist on keeping to not much more than 36 - 37 mph on a 40 road, will you get disciplined for reaching the speed limit ?
Price of fuel.
If a driver wants to do 40 on a single, it’s no bother to me, I’ll happily sit behind him. Like ■■■■ would I even think about attempting to overtake on a single carriageway
I know a bloke who goes everywhere on the limiter; motorways, dual carriageways, single carriageways, single track country lanes, through school playgrounds, everywhere. He’s part of the old school who think you’re not a proper lorry driver unless you’re always doing 56mph, even on your breaks.
We’re paid by the hour so I asked him why he insists on going everywhere as fast as possible? “…to get home quicker…” he replied. Fair enough.
However, a couple of nights later I’m trundling down a single carriageway at 40mph. Suddenly there’s a set of headlights weaving about behind me. He overtakes on a blind corner and guess who it is? Off he shoots into the distance, within a minute he’s completely out of sight and I continue my relaxed journey back to base.
On my return, said idiot is stood in the office looking smug. “…I’ve been here an hour…” he declared. “…that’s great…” I replied. “…but you’re still here aren’t you?..” He looked confused and didn’t know what to say so I clocked off and went home before him.
The roads will be much safer once “the old school” have [zb]ed off to retirement homes or pork pie induced early graves.
I am now diarising all my near misses and avoiding action I have to take whilst doing 40 on SC`s, this is so I can take it to my speed awareness course that I will be soon attending
I had to slow to 20MPH this morning, to avoid a head on collision with a Merc Sprinter luton van on my side of the road, A17 Leadingham, I flashed him a couple of times, but he just gave me the two finger salute as he came by me
If I had not have slowed, he would be dead now…What is wrong with these people■■?
I think drivers should get done if they cant do the speed limit aswell like the turds that drive for tesco at 38mph!
bald bloke:
Well you won’t see me trying to overtake you as I’m a 40 mph man too (well 41 - 42 anyway).
I’m the same, anywhere between 40 & 45 on A roads for me. I don’t understand why some I work with have to get around like headless chickens. Let them get on with it.

since paying lots of fines and plenty of points over the years! i decided not to pay any more money out! so why is it that i now stick to 40mph on single rds! i get every muppet trying to overtake me even in dangerous situations! especially artics!
what ever happend to paid by the hr!yes i work for DHL so have no choice anymore as reguarly checked on trackers whether we stick to 40mph! and threatend with the sack if we are found to be speeding!
so please guys if you see DHL truck going at 40mph its not our fault! aswell as being the law!
drive safe!
Sorry drive, but you`re asking for other road users to show respect and understanding…good luck with that!
I`m also 40mph because I got pulled for 46mph s/c and lost my (agency) position as well as the penalty. So its 40.
I also would like a little understanding from my fellow truckers, but despite what people think, they can be the worst drivers on the road. Sorry.
Why 37/38? According to my Speed Awareness guy, 40,s the LIMIT not a target.

A-lot of folk are on salary and job and knock mate, the quicker they get the job done the better their hourly rate, say they are on £100 a day, they do the job in 15 hours that’s £6.66 an hour, if they do the job in 10 hours that’s £10 an hour.Your problem is obviously that you’re on the same level as the [zb] car drivers.
My day starts when I leave home and ends when I get back, I do whatever is safe and legal to complete my job, I get to work and back home safely and in the middle I do my job in the same way. For this I’m only paid for the time I spend actually working and I don’t count the travelling to work time in my hourly pay, so if you want to teararse around the country, just don’t expect me to help you on your way to, at best the dole or at worst your grave or even worse prison for killing someone else.
Think about it if your not paid enough for a fair days work, look around, there’s better work out there.
Well said that man. I seen enough fatals in my time through ■■■■ heads travelling too fast for the conditions. Always trying to get somewhere as fast as they can. The grave is calling them ones early !
Ok, so I was driving a truck with a paper tacho in. When the tacho head said I was doing 40mph the GPS said I was doing 36mph
If I do 40 as per the GPS then the tacho shows me to be speeding, so would the recommendation be to go by the truck systems or the GPS? No doubt DHL are tied in via a satellite tracking system and then if used that would show the speed difference?

More to the point, whats with all the cars doing 45-50 on the motorways these days? The past few weeks I have spent more time in the middle lane with the rest of the lorries than in the “slow” lane…You have a point there. Ive noticed an increasing number of strange folk in cars “draughting” and sticking to my tail on near empty DC’s doing about 52. Its funny that they normally get bored with that after 10 miles and decide to overtake anyway
.
Yes I too have noticed a lot of “Klingons” recently right up my backside for mile after mile. The problem is they are usually so close all I can see in the mirror is the very edge of their wing mirror. I have to be honest they freak me out so much I have pulled off into services or something before now just to get them the hell of my tail. I don’t really know why it bugs me but it really does, and just doesn’t feel very safe to me (I know any incident would be their fault but still, its the time and explanations…)
Did a run Banbury - M25 - High Wycombe - Banbury today and loads of ssssllloooowwww movers in the left hand lane, I mean newish cars literally doing 40 mph…I can understand them dropping down to say, 60, to save a bit of fuel, but 40? I know when I spot an old vehicle (moggie minor or something) up ahead you know way before that they will be going slow and so you can take action well before, but when you see a newish car thats speeding up and down (they don’t seem to be able to cruise at a constant speed) its just a PITA. Another good one is the cars who go to overtake a truck, then sit level with the cab, for mile, after mile, after mile…
I even had one on the M25 (a car this is) fly past me, cut in front, and slam the brakes on with a clear road ahead of them - absolute numpty!

One fatal was enough to make me re-assess my driving standards. If the limit is 40mph, I’m doing 40mph.
We had a driver who did 56 all the time, even when work was slack. He knocked the lorry about (and things on customers’ sites) yet he thought it’d be ok as he was first out and first back…at 3pm and then would hang around the yard until 5. He was first to be laid off when the recession hit.

i cant believe this, with all the crap going on about rates, price of fuel etc dhl are employing someone to monitor the speed of the trucks
,they already spend half there time watching the screens hoping to catch drivers having 2 mins extra in a layby now the rest of the times spend watching the driver to see if he goes a couple of kph over the limit, all these firms want to 1/2 the workforce in the t.o as they all seem to have far too much spare time on there hands

Wrong. My mate works for DHL and hes been told to EXTEND his breaks so as to not have any discrepancies on his tacho. He
s told to take at least 50 minutes. I`ve also been told that by one of the companies I work for, Winacnton.
Do any of the 40mph lot get the p taken out of them for doing so? I do…doesn’t bother me, I just laugh at those who criticise the bonus scheme, then rush about worrying about it.

Yeah, what’s that all about? People who do something dangerous or even just make a mistake getting angry with you as if it’s your fault?
A few examples.
Bloke pulls out of T junction right in front of me causing me to brake sharply gives me the coffee bean sign. Didn’t even have time to flash or beep him, maybe he just saw the alarm in my face and reacted to it.
Similar situation where a lady is about to pull out of a side road right in front of me has to stop sharply. She swore at me and banged her hand on the steering wheel.
Lady swerves in to my path to avoid a dead badger and glares at me for not anticipating that she would do such a thing. Probably was my fault not to have foreseen her actions as most people would rather get hit by an HGV instead of hit a dead animal.
Sunglasses and spikey hair rep in audi comes flying round a corner over the white line and is furious with me for not swerving in to the kerb to avoid him.
Driver on slip road who sits next to me matching my speed expecting me to pull over blareing her horn instead of adjusting her speed and either pulling in front of me or dropping behind me.
All my fault apparently.
Being in a car makes people really aggressive. If you nearly bumped in to someone on foot on the pavement or in a supermarket for example, you just say ‘sorry mate’, laugh and carry on. But get behind the wheel and it’s a different story.
Wipes foam from chin. Rant over.
Squiddy: Don’t forget those who shout 'cos you didn’t stop in a queue of fast flowing traffic to let them pull out…
