4 on 4 off

Oh yes. :sunglasses:

If / when the day comes and I change jobs, I’ll push to look for another 4 & 4 shift pattern…

I suppose it would all depend on the job/money etc… If it was worth it I’d be willing to travel a bit further than I would usually.

Just checked the website I can see a map, but not actual written locations, none seem that close to me

Hey Landrummer81,

Click on the dots they give exact addresses then.

abbeylogisticsgroup.com/our-network/

I’m commuting further myself as only have to go to base once and return home once as rest of week on shift I’ll be overnighting.

If from Birmingham…then Banbury or Northampton closest…which isn’t close in reality!!!

Ah, gotcha…

It seems Northampton is probably closest. If you have any further details on the job it’d be much appreciated…

Only you can make that decision.
Their website includes all the basic details for job vacancies and rates and holidays etc.

I’m running out of a South East Depot but not very willing to post all the ins and outs of my contract that I’ve got myself.

As I’m sure others would take pleasure in saying I’m mad for giving up what I’ve got now

I’ve PM’d someone on this post that wanted further details for the British Sugar Contract and have given them the low down.

4 on, 4 off…■■?

What’s not to like…?

Only work ‘half the year’…

Book 4 days off and get 12…

Maybe even drive for another company (if allowed), and still be ‘legal’…

That’s why I’m going to give it a whirl purely on everything you’ve listed there.

Isn’t it something 5 and quarter months at work and rest off for an average full years wage?

There seems to be a lot of overtime available too for 4 on 4 off rosters if you want it.

If you think the average full years wage is around £22-23k mark? And doing o/t…well doesn’t that make it a a 5/3 or 6/4 with lots of weekend work? :grimacing:

Who works for that kind of wage full time nowadays on Class 1 in specialist sectors?

I’m talking about £35-7k average wage surely nowadays■■? As that’s what I’ve worked out my wages will go down too now.
Maybe everyone is richer than me but that’s a lot of money to me for the equivalent of 5 months work…not that I’m complaining

Or am I wrong in my thinking?

Edits - Maybe I’ll learn to spell and do my grammar correctly one day

That’s the sort of money all the 4 on 4 off jobs I’ve seen advertised work out to…unless you do the O/T…but then as I said it’s not 4/4 then…and companies like Fedex/TNT have advertised in the not too distanr past for class 1 drivers,on nights…@£20k…if you’ve got £37k for 4/4 well done fella, I’d keep it very quiet who I worked for!

Unfortunately they advertise their rates and hours openly

So I can’t keep it to myself…

If you did the overtime on extra days per week you’d break £40k+

But then like you say you’re not doing 4 on 4 off then so defeats the point.

I’m changing for all the time off you get instead, as you’ve already guessed

I’ve chased the money and all the hours to live that supposed lorry drivers dream of being very well off. I’ve done it last 2 years and saved well, but only in return to watch my health and sanity suffer dramatically.

Personally I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone it’s not worth it, working like that.

I’m nearly out of it in next month and hoping my health will recover better with those 4 days off in a completely different sector.

I know it may not work for lots on here but if I don’t personally try it, I’ll never know. And I don’t do regret.

Here’s my calculations for 4 on 4 off…

I believe the Lidl job (for example) is £128 per shift, so working half the year makes 178 days working and that much off, so…

178 x 128 = £22,784 pa

This is without any overtime of course.

This would be a fair pay cut for me, but I can work around this purely for the shift pattern which I’d love.

Also, working a typical 5 on 2 off, that clocks up around 260 working days a year, that’s a hell of a lot more days at work (82!) so it seems worth it all in all.

182.5 for half a year. Its also more than £128 a shift, remember that weekend premium is (and should be) built into the base rate for 4 on 4 off.

You can also do more hours on the 4 days without doing extra shifts.

I believe the £140 is Ltd rate from what I’ve heard.

The job that constantine mentions is specialist and paye but pays more than lidl

4 on 4 Off seems ideal…but thats if you work for a company on Paye and on salary…if an agency is offering £140 per shift for 4 days that =£560…before deductions.and as its agency no holiday pay amongst that, plus you have the added bonus of no pay for the 4 days off…so in effect its £280 a week. or am i seeing this wrong ■■

Its the equivalent of 3.5 days a week so £490 in your example. It should have the weekend premium built in as well

With 4 on 4 off you have to think of the standard 7 day week. It works this way:

For 4 consecutive weeks, you work for 4 days within the 7 day week. Then for 4 consecutive weeks you work for 3 days within 7 day week, and so on.

So during the 4 day weeks, you’d get 4 x £140, which is £560, and during the 3 days weeks you’d get 3 x 140, which is £420. So it averages out at £490 per week across the whole year (which is £25,480), because the number of shifts worked worked per 7 day week averages out at 3.5. However, some companies will average it out for you, and pay you £490 each and every week.

Ezy…that explains it better…but i think its much easier if we had an 8 day week…

Don’t think I haven’t written to the relevant people about this very idea. As yet, it’s been ignored.

When you start this rota, those 4 days off feel like a mini holiday. You’ll be waking up early on your third day off, and initially you’ll feel somewhat lost, because “you should be at work”. Fear not, this confusion won’t last long. Before you know it, you will fill those four days off, with what is known as “a life”, and you will wonder how you ever managed to cram everything into a two day weekend… :grimacing: :grimacing:

Mind you, this rota only works if you don’t need to follow a “normal” weekly life style. You are working half your weekends, and having four days off if your other half is at work/kids are in school is not much practical use.

Sounds ideal
