If it’s tramping, why do you care where it is?

Bleeding long commute to work even if only once every 4 days.
Bloke i haven’t seen for a couple of years now used to commute Suffolk to Coventry once a week, probably be retired now, but that was a £45k+ job, somehow i can’t see area pay advantage like that commuting the other way.
Remus, thinking cap on for all the likely companies in your area within a sensible commute, plus t’internet or whatever passes for the yeller pages these days, and get ringing round, any positive leads go knock on the door.
Only place I’ve heard of it Jack Richards they do 4 on 4 off 5 on 3 off all kinds of shifts.
Never worked for them but see them advertising
I’m quite tempted at idea of 4 on 4 off.
Although im in Manchester and they have a depot in Northwich.
Think they have a place in corby ?might be nearer for you?

That’s a good shout edd
Had look at there website.
I think Jack Richards are at Thrapston … used to see them went I went to Morrisons Produce at Thrapston … just off A14.
I’m not being funny or anything (or maybe I am) but I have just popped that into Google and found four jobs in 10 seconds. I know it’s a forum and everything and there is no such thing as a stupid question and all that.
Oh for the record Jack Richard’s, Wrights of Twycross, Abbey, Downtons
Jack Richards are always advertising lately and will consider shifts to suit the driver. I think I’d be swerving them myself.

The only problem is that they pay once a month.

What’s the problem with that? Many of us are paid monthly these days.
I want a 4 on 4 off tramping job.
Update. Ive been in contact with jack Richards.
They have a slot. But I’m a bit shocked at the pay structure.
£9.77 an hour. Mon to Friday. Flat rate.
10.50. Saturday
11.70 Sunday
If you knock a pound off that £9.77. Your not far off minimum wage.
I really don’t get this 4 on 4 off tramping.
Should be minimum of 3 weeks away.

Just ignore the dinosaur who expects his driver to have no live apart from driving and making him (the boss that is…) rich.
4on-4off is brilliant. Wether as a day job or tramping, its a perfect balance between wirking for a living, and having time to enjoy life.
I challenge anybody who disagrees, to try it for three months…
I got chatting to a Jack Richards driver while held up on the A1 recently. He said working for them was like “working for the Gestapo”. Just saying…

A lot like where I currently work then.

I would have agreed with you once, but I now see that there is a lot more to life than spending most of it in a ■■■■ truck.
I do 4 days now and I’m loving all the time at home I’ve now got.
Money aint everything, and it’s useless if you eventually burn yourself out trying to make it, …especially in this job where the the ratio between the bloody ridiculous amount of hours that you are allowed to work with the amount you get for it is totally derisory and ■■■■ poor.

Where the freck did that come from? For the record. I have not had a night out in 15 years, happy with my day work, the hourly rate is good though.
Was going to put smiley faces and light bulbs but cant be arsed.

I think it’s worth remembering that minimum wage means someone is being paid more for a job than would otherwise. That’s the blunt truth, so I don’t get too worried about it.
There are apps on the play store that tell you what the pick up is every month, if you enter the gross yearly salary. I was surprised that those who earn £12 an hour aren’t on a great deal more than £10, by the time the tax is applied

Not very common in transport for drivers tbh. And personally I would never work for monthly pay as I couldn’t afford to lose upwards of £2.5k depending on hours, and holiday owed etc if the firm goes skint, let alone go 7 weeks or more without being paid (by the time you find a job and do a week in hand, after getting bumped a 5 week month).
Back to the op, do Downtons have 4 on 4 off trampers at Dunstable?
