Might sound daft, but is driving for bang in 4 hours 30 classed as exceeding the limit? Only reason I ask is because it came up on my dash ‘exceeded 4.5’ or whatever it said but I had done bang on 4.5 hours. I know you need a break at 4.5 obviously.
Very nearly got caught out on the way back from my last run, simply couldn’t find anywhere to park!

A digi counts I segments. Abit like blocks ie 10 blocks = 10 sec. 60 blocks 1 min. Etc etc.
You prob did 4hrs 30min and 20 seconds .
You have to always round up what the clock says so always add an extra 2 mins . So you need to Actually stop on say 4hrs 28min .
Mainly on a first generation tacho especially if you have done a lot of stop start on your last bit of driving.
2nd generation will only round up to a full minute at most, but only if you have gone over 29 seconds in that last minute, other wise it will disregard it, then if you put it on break when you stop the last few seconds upto 29 will actually get counted as break!

4½ hours driving is not breaking the rules, but what sometimes happens is that if you stop exactly on 4½ hours driving then wait a minute the tachograph will click over to 4:31.
This is the reason you should never take a printout immediately after stopping, the tachograph requires a minute to calculate the last period of driving time.
What sort of time would people be writing explanations down ? I mean I’ve never wrote 1 out for 1min , I don’t see the point unless hato hasn’t had ■■■ the night before lol
I pulled into a yard at 04.30 driving time and as soon as it clicked from 4.29 to 4.30, I knew I had to stop else as has been said, it would have soon tripped over to 4.31 and then an infringement would have been received. As it happened, I literally pulled into the middle of the yard where I was delivering to and could not move. It was a case of ejecting the card and asking the shunter to move the vehicle for me
If you want to know how long the tacho takes to calculate, when you’ve had a 45 minute break turn it to crossed hammers and watch to see how long it takes to reset your driving time to zero. This is some thing I’ve started doing after setting off up the A19 thinking I’d had a full break, but the tacho disagreed and I had to stop in the next lay by for another thirty minutes, it’s a hard life

Don’t no why you find the need to drive till the last minute.
4 hrs 30 mins isn’t a target you can stop on 4hrs20mins…
Just saying .
Why are people on this site starting to resemble police/VOSA on this site? Of course they are targets if they weren’t, the game would be boring. Get a life!
used to have a vehicle that would register two minutes on tacho if you moved it over the cusp between minutes , it used to cause me grief in queues outside hubs , had to often park up outside hub on 4.28

That’s why with these old digis, it’s best to wait until the “calendar minute” flips over before commencing the move up the queue.

It was definitely 4hrs 30 mins recorded driving time. Even after my break it was still on 4.5 hours (had only done that up until then). I got a warning on the dashboard but nothing on the tacho (apart from the usual reminders). I downloaded my card today so will see if anything crops up.
Hit the handbrake at 4:30 exactly, digi registered 4:31.
Ken.
Had this happen to me and was offered an infringement to sign for which I rejected.
Quite right MD. An infringment is that…an infringement of the law. If you havent driven more than 4.5 then you havent infringed! You didnt design the recording equipment and neither did anyone else on here. It doesnt record accurately. Not our fault.
You can`t be nicked for speeding with a faulty gun, more so when its known to be faulty so why a tacho?
I have put the handbrake on after stopping on 4.29 driving, switched to break & had 50 mins. When I switched the engine back on the tacho has said I was over the 4.30 time. It’s like my boss…it lies and I ignore it!
