A couple of points.
The royal mail and Walkers trailers will have different rear wheel characteristics because Morrisons use those motorised, underslung tail lifts rather than a pillar lift or Canterleaver type. One assumes that a conventional Morrisons reefer trailer will show a shocking level of tail swing compared to say, a Norbert or an Eddie.
If traffic offices want to achieve what these trailers achieve, and more, all they need to do is speak to the people who make trailers for Emons dont they? A double deck trailer which is lower than your typical UK spec tautliner.
I have only driven one rear steer trailer, but that was as easy as pie. Watched the back end for the first half an hour or so, just to find out what it was doing, then cracked on, it followed me around like an Urban and I loved it. I was rather shocked when I said to the driver I trailer changed with that I didn’t know we still had any rear-steers and he said, “we don’t, do we?!?!?!”
Talking about Urbans, If you pull one of them and have to go backwards at any time, you should get double time and a tax free
bonus! I love Urban work, until I have to reverse onto a bay, they are little ■■■■■■■■ then.
I also have a simple policy. If I don’t know it, and there is no one around to make sure I am safe with it, then I don’t pull it. After all, when it all goes wrong, it will be me that is thrown to the wolves, not the TM for assigning the wrong tool to the job.
