3 artic tippers stuck in country lane

Just reading the Shropshire News 3 artic tippers following their sat nav directions have got them selves stuck down a country lane nr Wem Shropshire this happened on Thursday and they had to wait until recovery trucks came on Friday, one of the trucks had gone over a restricted weight bridge and was unable to turn left or right as it was close to a junction, the other 2 had tried to turn round but got stuck.
What a nightmare situation to be in, It said the locals gave them tea and sandwiches and the drivers spent the night in the cab.

Thanks for that mate I’m on IPad and not sure how to post a link

Refreshing to read about the local residents looking after them.

Not just a plonker blindly following a satnav down a country lane after putting in the wrong info’, but another two following him.

One of the most important rule’s of tipper driving.

OMG!! That brings back an awful memory of driving an artic and being escorted by the police the wrong way around
a one way system or street after I’d accidentally strayed into the village of Ironbridge with it’s ancient bridge! Oops!

The locals weren’t best pleased Lol

Another time while still fairly inexperienced trying to be clever and take a shortcut on my way to a Toyota dealership in
Harlech West Wales… I can clearly remember watching the nearside mirror and seeing the edges of the road crumble away
under my trailer wheels as I negotiated a bend around a lake in a place called Bala ( I think! ) - I thought I was going to go
over the edge!

I learned an important lesson that day… stick to the main roads wherever possible when in a big vehicle! Lol

In order to get to that bridge, they’ve passed an advance warning of a 12.5 tonne restriction, crossed an actual 12.5 tonne restricted bridge, then a “No Through Road” sign (after which there are some quite easy places to turn around) before they got to the “dirt track private lane” bit that finally led them to the bridge where they became stuck. Three planks of the highest order.

On facebook it was said that they had been given the wrong postcode by the office? I know in the past we had to go loaded (30.50.gvw) over canal bridges with 2.5 tones restrictions to access certain construction sites as that was the only entry point, I don’t know where those three were heading for though.

Pete.

Even after all those idiotic errors dumb, dumber and even more dumb still had the option of backing up to a suitable place to turn round. What a bunch of plonkers.

Yeah but they wouldn’t be able to because the one at the back would just sit there on the horn thinking the one backing up is just being an arse rather than getting out to see what’s occurring

Everyone knows that tipper drivers can’t go anywhere unless they are in a convoy

But you wouldn’t just go over the bridge without specific instructions/direction to go over that specific bridge - or would you…?

Maybe they were simply demonstrating their initiative - how they could be relied on like real drivers to get the job done without being spoon-fed instructions in some sort of Billy Big Wheels stylee?

Well we did, nobody mentioned about the bridges being there so we just went down the road to the site as there was no other way to access it. Presumably British Waterways knew, possibly they didn’t, but it wasn’t really our problem. The job was on for several months so plenty of weight went across it! You had a lot of jobs on tippers where access was questionable, I have had to have the track dug away below a bridge to get the truck out on two occasions after I tipped as it was then too high, and in Yorkshire one saturday had to unbolt and remove both mirror arms to get between two houses and that’s a strange feeling reversing through a tight gap without being able to see what is behind and with no room to poke your head out of the window either!

Don’t take it to heart, can’t lump everyone together, have a good one.

Wow. I got to a road that my delivery point was down once but there was 6’6” width limit at the end with no except for access plates. I phoned the office and said I ain’t taking my truck down there because if I get stuck and block the road the police are going to be asking why I passed a red circular sign prohibiting me going down that road.

You’d have one of these 3might have said hang on a minute we need to check this out when they saw the weight limit signs.

That`s if Giles has a phone, or a signal if he does own one…or even if he has it switched on :open_mouth:

Some of the places we are expected to tip in Devon / Cornwall are`nt 4x4 friendly, never mind 44t :open_mouth:

And, if Giles does answer, you can`t understand a word he says anyway :unamused:
