So i told the boss ,my phone costs money, around £30 a month…so if you want to phone me ,you guessed it …
So far no phone calls -it,s gonna kick off i know…so i left a message on the answerphone when you provide me with a phone i,ll answer it…happy new year…
I like your style!!! We should all be a little more militant (easier said than done - I know) but just ‘gestures’ like this could help the cause. I never use my mobile for outgoing company calls - maybe I’ll stop answering incoming company calls too…after all I provide the phone - not them!!!
Will be interesting to see if there are any repercussions though■■?
Not worth getting sacked over though is it? A lot of drivers haven’t had a pay rise for the past 5 years odd & probly won’t for the next 5 years, supply & demand see.

Very petty in my opinion. Why have a phone if you’re not going to use it
Why should he pay £30 a month for a phone that work use as a work phone? Sure you could say just get on with it but fair play to him, if they want to keep ringing him they should provide a phone my boss does(and all vehicles fitted with hands free).
My mate phoned me today and mentioned that his firm have told them they won’t get a pay rise in 2014,he then went on about how the job is crap and on a rant for 5 minutes about how bad the place is,so I said have a look round for a new job there are a few setting on this year near by.his reply was nahh I’m settled here.
You just can’t please some folk

Because it’s his private phone that he pays for not a work phone provided by the company, I thought that was quite obvious from the original post!!
We have co.phones that are locked to only dial certain numbers, if I need to phone customers for eta.s etc, that usually only take less than minute, I always put £1 per call on my expenses sheet, it’s my phone so I charge what I want The first time that it is argued with or refused it will not get used for co. related calls again, and they will have to stop treating us like kids and remove lock.
As usual we have those that say nothing about it and do not claim back the price of the calls so as not to… cause any bother
As for the thread subject the lot that I have worked for, for the last 4yrs, have not given a pay raise for the last 6yrs, as the poor ■■■■■■■ is down to his last 5million.

Maybe it’s used for personal stuff rather than work-related…I defo. don’t have a phone just to please my employer. In fact I’ve even suggested to colleagues that we leave them at home - but this didn’t happen…there’s always some that’ll let the company do as they please. Let the firm provide phones if they want to get in touch■■? It’s not difficult.
Do office workers use their private mobiles for company calls■■? NO - 0nly for Facebook/Ebay/TRUCKNETing!!!
Now if the situation were reversed & I was issued with a company phone I would probably use it for the ‘odd’ personal call - but I wouldn’t abuse the privilege.
I’ve done shifts at a couple of places where the units didn’t have phones. One company I didn’t need to ring anyone so no problem. Another however, wanted you to ring in once tipped. I did, but when I got back to the yard I said to the office wallah (I had presumed the unit was a rental, so no phone). There wasn’t a phone in the wagon, his reply " We don’t supply phones!"
It’s fair enough not ringing out on your phone for company purposes but being arsey about receiving a work call on your personal phone would put you at the top of the list to be first out the door in my opinion, just sayin’

I don’t think it’s grounds for fair dismissal - ‘Sorry boss - my mobile phone’s flat or no signal’!!!
How about a call when you’re in the middle of daily/weekly rest■■? That can be a pain, even (or especially) on land-line & some planners don’t think enough about the fact you’re ‘off duty’ or even asleep…they are sometimes too quick to pick up the office phone & ring you up for something trivial - especially annoying if you’ve been on nights, for instance.
As far as a pay rise goes I feel this year will be good for drivers. When the driver cpc kicks on a lot of the older drivers will call it a day, plus things are getting busier by the week. So less drivers plus higher demand for our services should result in better terms for our selves.

not just older drivers, there are a lot who only do a couple of shifts here and there, they are semi retired or have a full time job in another industry, and the best bit is that not many of them have done their cpc… so hopefully more work for us and all them Romanian tractor drivers.
Hit a nerve with some on here haven’t I I wasn’t suggesting to use your own mobile for the total benefit of work I simply posted that to not accept a call from the employer was a bit petty!

Do I assume you used the phone to call work then rather than answer when he calls you - no cost to you!!
