Hiya I,ll tell what happens. everyone keeps their mouth shut!! try to make him think he knows it all. the day goes quicker
and you go home thinking what a bad day i had…
When I,ve been at Shell we have safty talks, we have to listen to this chap.(he calls him self the safty officer)loads of dosh.
HE asks the room full of 50/60 year old men HAVE YOU EVER COME IN CONTACT WITH PETROL OR DIESEL we all sit their
looking blank and shaking our heads in a no movement. he must think you lying load of B…ds.because nealy every one has
blown dirt out of motorcycle jets.syphoned petrol out of cars for there motorbikes.I,ve nicked diesel out of my truck
syphoned into a 5 gall can. all he wants to hear is no we never did that…Even he,s done it but would,nt tell us.
Do as i say not as i do.
Good luck
John

i think ill do something worthwhile to get my cpc, do my hiab and adr, least i could get something that i can mayby use instead of sitting (sleeping) in a classroom

I agree with you gogzy. You can use certain training to count towards your Driver CPC. So instead of just doing the bog standard sessions ask your trainer if there is any other courses that could be taken to build up your hours. I have done 4 seven hour sessions in total but only 2 in a classroom. I was able to do the other 2 with my C+E training. I will complete the last seven hours early next year.
I completely agree with the person who mentioned other proffessions. A large number of jobs require on going periodic training.
If some people arent going to do it then thats their choice. I am gonna complete it as i love my job and want to be a truck driver for years to come.
Yes its an extra cost, but it isnt going away any time soon.

What exactly is invloved in becoming a DCPC ‘trainer’ ?

I can see a market for it in the coming years ‘cos every Co’ I’ve worked with thru agency seems to be relying on the churn rate of drivers leaving & only employing those who have most of it under their belt.

Any training that you have to do in order to continue working ie cpc can be claimed back through your tax return, If you pay tax through PAYE you can still fill out a return and claim it back. It’s only muppets who won’t contact their local business link / tax office / other chap in the know, that will end up paying for their cpc

i am 55 and i will pack it in

Ah… of course, that would happen, wouldn’t it!? If every co is doing that then a week of periodic training come summer of 2014 will probably cost about £2K :open_mouth:

An interesting thread, well interesting in the fact that some will roll over and get shafted, some have been shafted and refuse to roll over again.

Driver CPC is a Euro Nationwide thing so drivers cannot say they will not do it, what they can say though is they will not pay for it. The world is full of employment agencies, and so the world will become full of agency drivers, it is they who will be expected to pay for their own digi cards, digi rolls, hiviz vests, safety boots, tom toms and telephones, it is also they that will be expected to fund this new piece of highway robbery.

Years ago the unemployed took the kings shilling, and for that they got meals, a wage and a job.

Let the companies pay the shilling, if they cannot afford it, they should not be in business!

The ones that say they’ll throw the towel in are either all talk, too stupid to fail the un-failable tests, or going to be so old when it comes round that they are ready for the scrapheap by then!

none apply to me. im waiting to hear from 3 companies as we speak. i dont want to be in the game when my digitach expires

this time i am getting out there myself and trying to at least get in the industry. that has to increase my chances of being considered

Gogzy. I should be asking a question on behalf of all you expat jocks. I imagine the training you have had and will get in ERP will go towards the DCPC in NL

This document advises us against it but as it is EC legislation, let the EC sort it out :stuck_out_tongue:

truckerjon:
My situation is this;

I have been a DSA RLGV instructor with an excellent pass rate for class 2 and 1 drivers.
I am FTA accrecited class 1 assessor.
Scania Driver instructor certified, and fuel efficency trained
Terburg Driver Instructor.
EFAD Qualified emergency service driver (blues & twos!)
ADR
Manual handling and Health & Safety instructor.
30+ years of driving various sizes of trucks in UK and europe.
Worked for major UK companies as training manager or instructor.
Workrd in driver recruitment in UK and Europe.
Assessed and

Trained (with a capital T) drivers from eastern europe.

I have been driver assessed by so many companies, i can’t remember.
as agency, worked for most major, and some small firms in the south of england.

BUT I still have to sit in a classroom and listen to somebody who has never driven a truck telling me incorrect information and I have to pay for it!
All the above count for nothing. I have tried to get work training, but because I don’t have the new NVQ training qualification, nobody wants to know. I have offered to pay for the NVQ training myself if someone wolud take me on as an instructor, but it’s easier to take someone who already has it.
It is sad because I enjoy driving, if not all the bull that goes with it, but i can’t see me bothering with the CPC. If the industry and our government are willing to let people like me, with a wealth of experience, leave the industry because we don’t have a bit of plastic, then I’m not sure i want to be in the indusrty after 2014 anyway.
Remember, you can’t TEACH experience.

perhaps this is your problem :open_mouth:
