Ducklington steam and vintage show was on today and is on tomorrow; Not sure “steam” should be in the title as there were only about 6 proper ones there. Loads of those of those “phut phut phut” engines that pump a flask of water around (I ignored these and so did most people). Not many heavy commercials there but a few nice Bedfords. Some rubbish sealed knot type American civil war display and a few junk merchants. I was relieved of £10 for the privilege of less than 2 hours trying to avoid sheep ■■■ and wannabe traction engine owners with those miniature steamers.

I was there exhibiting shearing equipment, twas a decent weekend.

Pete.

Didn’t see that Pete; Went mid-late afternoon on Saturday. The light-medium commercials were impressive but as I’ve said, the number of traction engines were disappointing. Definitly one to watch for the future, as Bloxham was pretty much the same this year and no Foden Society as advertised.

Just for you, Muckaway - the Bridgnorth Rally in the Valley had some stationary engines and also this:

The starter motor from a Harrier jump jet!

Coming up soon, Trans-Pennine Run Heywood(normally Birch Services) to the Stray Harrogate 4th August.

And whatever time they say it’s going to start, make sure you get there much earlier - the organisers have difficulties with their watches…

Are any Trucknet members going to The Trans Pennine, if so could you please take plenty of photos and show them on this thread.

Thanks Steve.

Will do, no problem Steve.

Always used to start at Belle Vue Manchester. I always used to remember driving past Bernard Mannings ‘Famouse Embassy Club’ To me it just looked like a Nissan Hut. Then stopping half way at Harry Ramsden’s Guisley.

Nostalgia always looks better looking back!

It starts from Birch services (westbound side). First vehicles usually start leaving around 7.30am.

I’ll be on the run, hopefully at the wheel of Bowkers left hand drive low ride Volvo F10 - now its old enough to take part in the Trans Pennine!

Some webites/publications are saying Heywood, some Birch Services, some Middleton. I don’t come from that area, but looking at a map are they all just giving a dfferent name to the same place. The HCVS website, no help.

It leaves from the lorry park of Birch Services Westbound. Vehicles exit the emergency gate to pass through Middleton.

Vehicles usually start arriving at Birch on Saturday afternoon.

Thanks for the confirmation of the east/west bound!

Really fancy the C.S.Ellis one as I used to run with a few of their lads on Powder tankers. Bit too far for me, I’m afraid, so it looks like I’m going just down the road to Daresbury.
Yes, Larry, on the A56 just off M56. Probably more steam than motors, but I’ll report back for everyone’s information.
Also, for those who missed the North Rode show, they are holding a “Transport Extravaganza” in September. I’ll keep my eyes open for the exact date.

Only just seen this reply. When were you on the tanks? My brother worked there on tanks for a while before later going to Castle. Dad did 24 years at Ketton/Castle (probably explains the ERF fascination).

Hilgay Rally - Saturday 10th/Sunday 11th August

Boston Rally - Saturday 31st August/Sunday 1st September

Haddenham - Saturday 7th September/Sunday 8th September or Truckfest Newark (which is nearer where we keep the lorries).

Cranford near Kettering - Saturday 21st/Sunday 22nd September

Hilgay and Cranford normally have a really good turnout of commercials whilst Boston is a relatively new show but is growing in popularity, hopefully we can support it with 3 E series this year. Not sure if I can make Hilgay, this is the busiest 6 weeks of the year for my job.

As I recall it would have been late 80s or early 90s. We used to haul cement from Sharpness Docks for Rugby, Dragon and Castle and from Rugby’s Newport depot. I used to like the run from Sharpness to Ketton as it was a nice day’s work, loaded both ways. When the building boom ended & the cement companies closed local depots my boss decided to take a different direction and put me * my vehicle on permanent subcontract to R.H.Stevens of Macclesfield who seemed to have plenty of tanker work. After a while, Stevens asked to buy the vehicle “as long as the driver comes with it” so I emigrated from God’s Own County to the jewel of the Cheshire countryside. However, I didn’t see any transfer fee!
I must get round to learning this “scanning” business then I can post a piccie of my pride & joy at this time.
I must confess I can’t remember any of the Ellis lads’ names after all this time, but I would recognise many of them if I saw them.

My brother was there around that time, think he had a B series at first then a DAF 2800. He must have been there after 1988 till about 1991.
