20 years since I was last trucking, unemployable?

bossman:
Just came home now from a 1 hour drive assessment ,not sat in an artic for near on 16/17 years ,could not believe how easy it all came back to me ,felt so at ease but not cocky .really enjoyed it and look forward to doing a few trips .
Best of luck in your own return to driving .

wow that’s great, thank you for telling me

was it 16-16 years of NOT driving ‘any’ trucks/buses? 'cos that’s me (well 20 years), I have only been driving cars/motorbikes in these last 20 years

I have just called the driving school I did my HGV class 1 with and they still exist, I asked them about a ‘refresher’ course as I’d like to do a day with them just to feel less ‘nervous’ about going back into it.
They can do it for £260 for the day
as I am just posting my licence with completed medical form off to DVLA today to renew my entitlements I will wait until I get it back then go and do a day out with them
now onto CPC (they also do it so may organise with them)

The place I used in northampton told me do 1 hour assessment ,to see if a days refresher needed ,£39 paid ,and to my delight trainer said not needed as he could see I was confident and well able to drive .also in lorry was a fella been assessed to be an assessor for his company ,spoke to him after and he could not believe how long I had not driven for and was shocked ,thought it was very good clean smooth drive ,must admit has given me a real boost not to have even sat in one for so long .
had to smile to myself came up M1 behind an Asda lorry ,I said shall I just stay in behind him ,was told to do my own drive so passed it out ,bet he was not happy to see a traing lorry coming passed …has given me a real lift thought and I know I will be fine the road rust will soon disappear ,

HAHAHAHAHA ‘fantastic’ :grimacing:

well, I ‘assumed’ I had to do one day, only just called the training school today and the chap was out of his office so have to call him back when I receive my licence back from DVLA.
I will discuss the assessment, am sure they’ll do that as an ‘ex-pupil’ of their school
thanks for tip/sharing great story

No problem glad to share it ,I’ve read many a story been shared on here myself and every little piece helps ,but Deffo look at the assessment first ,
