It gets worse as well, some agencies also require you to have 180 days worth of traceable tacho in the last so many months on top of the 2 year thing, so if you have had a break from driving and come back it your also shafted.
It’s not the agencies that specify that, it’s their clients. The agency has to put that sort of stuff in the job description whether they want to or not, or they don’t get the grade of driver which the client is looking for.
Look at it from their point of view; if they put an ad in the paper saying “we take anyone with a Class 1 even if they’ve got eff all experience and nine points” they’d still get pretty much the same number of applicants but no reputable company would touch the agency.
In the trade it’s known as filtering. Apart from anything else it does keep a few of the seriously unemployable away.
