2 Questions for you all

I have 2 questions to ask after talking to a few drivers in the last couple of weeks.
Question 1-- Do any of you still use CB Radio’s
Question 2 --Do you think that the speed limit on single unrestricted roads should be raised to 50 mph and dual carriageways to 56mph for all hgv’s.

I don’t but quite a few of the drivers at out place do.

No.

Yes to both of your questions

No and No.

Before this thread gets out of hand, you could create a poll

No.
No.

no and yes

  1. No
  2. yes & no - Always drive at the limiter on dual carriageways and do on some single carriageways! all depends on what road you are driving. I think we should be like America, variable speeds on all types of roads, I also like how they can turn right on a red light in certain places (obviously it would be left for us).
  1. No
  2. Yes might as well, most drivers do that speed on them anyway

I no longer drive HGV,but all the tippers, both artic bulk tippers and rigids that use the quarries in this area use CB radio’s. I still use them in vans.
As for raising the speed limit, yes I agree, but with the present limit kept on certain sections of A roads and dual carriageways where necessary. Keep the present limit on B and unclassified roads.

i had a go on a cb once…

got nothing…not anything on any channel…so i think that answers your question for the majority of truckers out there lol

no and err no!

Yes & Yes.

No and No - 40mph on single lane roads is fast enough especially if you are paid by the hour

Q 1 No
Q 2 No

no
yes,but i though it already was,never seen a truck yet doing 50mph on the A14,A1,A38,A50 etc,etc

I have a cb and use it, so do some of the other drivers on our firm, but you do get some nut jobs out there

I would like to see the limit raised but only if your running empty, on some roads 40mph is perfectly fine if your fully laden whereas if your running empty you could do abit more

I dont currently use a cb radio but have done in the past.
Yes i think the current outdated 40mph speed limit for trucks on a single carriageway should be raised to a safer and more fuel efficient 50mph-it all depends on the road and the conditions though.

No to the CB Part, and to the latter yes. Too many crazy car drivers attempting overtaking manouvers that are far more dangerous than professional lorry drivers who can gauge whata safe speed would be. After all considering their size, trucks are involved in fewer A road crashes that were the fault of the trucker than vice versa.

you need an aerial :smiling_imp:

no and yes.

No, but quite lot of the blokes at our place do.

Yes, but only because sometimes 40 on s/c roads (like most of the A47 from Norwich to Kings Lynn) can lead to long lines of frustrated car drivers and some suicidal driving practices. I think it would ideally be discretionary. Or variable depending on weather and level of traffic.

I really don’t want to be involved in any accident caused by slow moving trucks traveling at an unnecessarily slow speed.
