No & No
No
Yes and only at certain times of the morning, say between 1 am till 5am. It’s mostly trucks on the road at that time of the morning anyways.
1; Not since December when my cb packed up (modern ones don’t seem to last). I haven’t replaced it because I’ve enjoyed not hearing colleagues whinge about how crap the job is despite never leaving, how any job that involves reversing/shunting is crap, how crap their lorry is…
2; On Primary routes, yes. However, around Oxon there are some B and even unclassified roads where 50 is safer than on some A roads
yes, i use a CB. on AM most of the time.
re: the speed limit, I think the speed limit should be the same for all vehicles.
if it’s 70mph for cars, then 70mph for trucks. if it’s 50mph for cars, then 50mph for trucks.
simple, and safe. what moron thought different speed limits were safe?
Brian J, you got your ears on good buddy? To both your questions, no.
Mr. Happy, eastbound and down, 10-4
All I can say is Sausages
Grayham:
I have a cb and use it, so do some of the other drivers on our firm, but you do get some nut jobs out thereI would like to see the limit raised but only if your running empty, on some roads 40mph is perfectly fine if your fully laden whereas if your running empty you could do abit more
Stop every curtainsider to see if it’s loaded?
EastAnglianTrucker:
No, but quite lot of the blokes at our place do.Yes, but only because sometimes 40 on s/c roads (like most of the A47 from Norwich to Kings Lynn) can lead to long lines of frustrated car drivers and some suicidal driving practices. I think it would ideally be discretionary. Or variable depending on weather and level of traffic.
I really don’t want to be involved in any accident caused by slow moving trucks traveling at an unnecessarily slow speed.
The accidents are caused by other impatient/incompetent road users, not trucks travelling at 40.
Wheel Nut, Sausages this week, bacon fat last week - what is it with you and pork related products?
Hiya…retired now so i only use the chicken box on road runs.the cb was a good bit of kit at first
before the idiots got them. gps was,nt on the market. i have seen trucks from a certain area
and asked the driver where a delivery point was miles before getting to the destination.
very good in there day…
50 mph on A roads i think thats a yes…BUT only if you get a extra 30 minute break paid for.
hows that. Iv,e been to canada quite a few times and the traffic keep at the speed limit plus
all vehicals run at the same speed and you do.nt seem to get the bunchimg up like in the UK.
Can i say how much better the M6 works with the 4 th lane. i ran from chester to nr basildon
on friday,i hit jct 10 at just after 12 lunch and sailed straight through without stopping once.
I was in my camper van but its a long long time since i,ve driven straight through in the day time.
for 25 years my main work was macclesfield to london and later Chester to london so i.ve done
my share of sitting on the M6…
John
No to CB, not something that really interests me.
Yes to raising of the speed limits, but only in certain ways.
A lot of A roads 50 is more than safe in given conditions and certainly means you get less morons trying to overtake at every opportunity. However, there are several where more than 40 is just stupid.
50 on “most” dual carriageways is perfectly adequate.
I would like the opportunity to turn the truck up to 60 on the motorways though.
Yes I do use the cb. No No No ,leave the speed limits as they are.
Yes and no
-
No I don’t use a CB radio.
-
Yes I think speed limits should be raised where safe to do so.
Off hand I can’t think of a duel-carriageway where it would be unsafe to do 56 mph, and there are plenty of single carriageway roads where it would be safe to do more than 40 mph.
Not so sure about doing 50 mph on a single carriageway road whist talking on the CB radio though
