2 no seat belt fines in less than an hour!

i rolled my car about 2 years back and at the time i was in a habbit of not wareing my belt… now i rolled the car from one side of the motoway to the other and ended up on the roof against the barrier (it was early hours so the roads were more or less empty) now i walked away unharmed and called the police fire ect… now when i was being checked buy the paramedics the firemen came over to me and asks how the hell i got out unhurt (pure luck if you ask me) but he asked how i got out the car and i explained i wasnt wareing my belt… and he said that kind of explains it cause if i was wareing it then it could have been worce and i would have had to be cut out… not that he was saying not to ware a belt in future he was saying it got lucky… but to be honest i think they are a good and bad thing… i ware mine now but if im honest thats down to i cant afford any more points or a fine not down the the health bit…

I agree it makes sense but…

Over 1,000 people die each year from falling down stairs.

Should we therefore ban stairs? Or supply a compulsory safety harness?

The safer people feel the more risks they take. If you placed a blade in the steering wheel, pointing towards the driver people would be very careful…

It didn’t help Jimmy Saville did it?

He spent most of his life in Stoke Mandeville and Jimmys, and he was best remembered for Seat Belts :stuck_out_tongue:

If what I read is true, he is soon about to be remembered for something else entirely, a bit like Gary Glitter :stuck_out_tongue:

There is no smoke without fire, has someone found a photograph in his second hand tracksuit?

seeing as there is a fair bit of criticism, can you all truthfully say youve never driven the wagon without wearing it?

not criticism, just common sense! trucks never had seatbelts in when I started driving them, as probably alot of older lads on here to! BUT it depends on how much you value YOUR life! :sunglasses: simples :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

Am i missing something here?

What sort of camera has been type approved for enforcement of this law?

These by the look of things :open_mouth:

kmscp.org/the-law/seat-belts.aspx

Noticed an IR CCTV camera staring right at me as I passed a bridge on the M180 towards Scunthorpe the other night. Is this one of them?

It’s a rule that really gets on my nerves. I quite often don’t wear mine at work, and it should be the choice of the wearer. I’ve heard all the [zb] about saving lives, but surely the only life at risk is the person who is/isn’t wearing it.

The law sticking it’s nose in where it really doesn’t need to.

+1. I don’t agree with the penalty system anyway, we all know that the authorities have to make money out of us somehow so it should be optional £60+3 points or £100 no points, simples!

I guess I’m not the only one who also believes that wearing a seatbelt could result in worse injuries, only wear mine too because I can’t afford the tickets & not because it’ll save my life…

If your on Multidrop deliveries then I’m 99% sure you can be exempt from wearing one

No one is exempt wearing a seatbelt, even on multidrop! MMTM   :sunglasses: :grimacing:

Err taxi drivers carrying passengers? Recovery truck drivers also carrying passengers? Grossly obese people with a Doctors note? Aforementioned pacemaker (I didn’t know that one) ?

Any one on here that proclaims that it should be “upto the individual” wether they wear one or not is talking complete bollox as per usual… you never dissapoint :unamused:
If you went through what myself and my mrs went through several years ago, believe me, you’d ■■■■■■■ wear one alrite! :unamused: :unamused:
No one has any idea what it feels like to see your partner / wife / girlfriend whatever, sat in a smashed up car screaming in agony and soaked in blood until it happens. Ive been there and got the t-shirt.
Put the ■■■■■■■ thing on FFS.

Taxi drivers yes but not sure about these.

A guy in a van pulled out in front of her. She t-boned him at 50 mph.
I dont want anyone, on this forum or anywhere else to feel the way i did (letalone how my mrs was feeling) when i came across the acident on my way home from work that day about 8 year ago. Had she not been wearing a belt, she’d be dead now.

Sorry to hear… :frowning:

Tiz ok mate, she made a 100% recovery but it ■■■■■ you up big time!!!
Should the worst happen to ya, you have to think about how your family would feel??
What would they think?? Over and over they would replay the same sentance- if only!
I know that wearing a belt is not the be-all and end-all but alot the time they help rather than hinder!
I didnt used to use mine to much once but after that experiance, it really hit home big time.

Idiots don’t wear seatbelts, and any argument you make against wearing seatbelts just confirms that your an idiot.

Every day you decide that your too hard (stupid) to put your seatbelt on, you are deciding that you don’t care about the person who has to jetwash whatevers left of you off the road, oh yes and that your family will have to mourn whatevers left of you.

On the other hand if you haven’t bred yet, you’re doing the human race a favour, Darwinism does work you know.

not heard that one before.

i get grief from quite a few of my “customers” as my recovery truck only has lap belts on 5 of the 6 passenger seats. it’s never been an issue yet, but i don’t know what i’d do if i had to pick up someone with 2 very small kids that had baby seats needing 3 point belts to secure them. the last place i worked had a T reg merc that had never had seatbelts fitted from new. loads of people flat refused to get in it

There is a seatbelt camera? You lot on the windup?

dailymail.co.uk/news/article … phone.html

Just a couple of points. Ive looked at the Daily Mail article at the guy who was "caught" using a phone while driving. Theres no phone. Hes got his left hand up to his ear. He could be scratching it or whatever, but there`s no picture of a phone there! I hope he contested it.
As for seatbelts in lorries, I think they are far too restricting in town. I prefer to have total movement. When at a junction turning left, wide swing, pedestrians, cyclists…when you try and move forward to get a good look, the bloody thing snaps shut!! Maybe a HGV exemption in within 30mph limits would be sensible.
