What are your thoughts on this, i think 1p a liter is just taking the urine, but while everyone sits back & takes it there is no future for this industry.

Why not blockade the oil refineries and NOT runaway when the police turn up?
Personally I think a penny off is a huge result given that the last governmentâs fuel escalator had us down for a 4 pence rise this time round. Thankfully that is now banished for a few years at least.

Too little and too late,
the only thing that he could have done he dismissed,
Hauliers are the life blood of industry and also every day life, giving the industry an essential user rebate, giving British Hauliers the opportunity to fill up in the Uk at prices comparable to those in Europe would have been far more effective for the industry than the 1p of a litre and the postponed fuel escalator.
We are paying the highest fuel prices already, promising not to add an increase, and too remove only the last percentage increment of a punative tax in no way goes towards creating a level playing field
To put it in simple terms
He was demanding ÂŁ10 (random figure) exorbitant tax off us all
and next month it was going to be ÂŁ11
Now it wont go to ÂŁ11 and in fact will only be ÂŁ9
and we are supposed to be grateful he is only robbing the ÂŁ9 instead of the ÂŁ11
pesonally I would rather not be robbed at all.

No itâs not a lot, but donât you think at least itâs in the right direction
DOWN
1p per litre doesnât seem much, but work it out on a monthly usage, further still a years usage. It all helps.
I was listening to LBC this morning and the woman on there said that not being taxed extra is like some saying âIâm not going to punch you in the face like I originally intendedâ
Yes but the point is weâre complaining about it only being a penny off as much as we would have complained about it being 4p more expensive. What a sad bunch we all are.

Indeed but there is no way this or any other government of any colour is ever going to let us have derv at the same prices they pay in Europe (unless it comes about due to the price in Europe going up I suppose) so in the real world this is about as good a result as anyone with realistic expectations could have hoped for.

Of course it does. Any reduction in duty by definition goes towards creating a level playing field. It might not go very far towards it but it is nevertheless a step in the right direction.

We are self sufficient in road fuel so why is it that the government wonât help our own economy by letting us have our own fuel at the same price as the yanks pay let alone Europe .Weâve been here before in the mid 1970âs and 1980 was the result.
The oil companies will be banging the price up now,to pay for the extra heâs taking off them.

I dont see it as a reduction in duty, just a cancellation of the previous escalator all he has done is knocked of one rung of a very large ladder
A true reduction would have been to reset the duty to what it was before the fuel escalator came in, and then reduce that by 1p a litre, , in purely semantic terms he has reduced duty, in actual terms all he has done is reversed the very last part of a devasting tax escalator
as I said earlier he is stealing ÂŁ10 , and now giving you ÂŁ1 back and hopes all will be gratefull he is only stealing ÂŁ9
If someone has the chance to punch you in the face 10 times, but only does it 9 times, should you be grateful or would you prefer he didnt do it at all?

With a bit on top to cover their âadminâ costs and to maintain profitability allowing for inflation which will probably result in a call to raise interest rates by the bank of england which will help my finances.

No its not banished. if the price of a barrel of oil drops the escalator will come back inâŚ
there is no requirement for the fuel companies to drop their pump prices before that happens
the small print in the budget says that if the price of a barrel drops below $75 the higher rate of tax on the oil companies will be reduced and the fuel escalator imposed to make up the short fall in revenue.
Im order to keep profit margins with the higher rate of tax the oil companies will keep the price at the pump high, if the price per barrel drops and the fuel companies drop out of the higher rate tax the fuel escalator will kick in and keep the prices up, ither way the fuel companies and HMRC win, and we pay

Not at all of course but that analogy doesnât work. To make your analogy work you need to ask âwould you like to be punched in the face 10 times or in the nuts 10 times?â Not being punched at all isnât an option, the money has to come from somewhere. If they massively cut fuel duty, theyâll have to massively increase some other tax and like it or not whatever or whoever you tax it all affects us all anyway in the end.

Wont be long before the next terrorist attack or some backward country going bananas and the price will rocket. Grand scheme of things a penny is nothing you can sweet talk your local tesco dot com driver and he will give you a 5pence coupon ffs

Itâs funny how when the duty went up a penny at the start of the year everyone was moaning that it would â â â â â â â the industry and then when it goes down a penny everyone says that itâll make no difference.
It was the same with the VAT, when it went down from 17.5% to 15% everyone said it made stuff all difference yet when it went up from 17.5% to 20% for some reason everyone was moaning that it was the end of the world.

The 80%+ rate of income tax for high earners in the 1970âs didânt âaffect us allâ in the same way that reducing it to 45% and putting it all on road fuel duty instead did.
I have had a word with my fiancial advisor with a view to how best invest it
OK, The budget is a joke as regards fuel duty, where is the level playing field that was promised years ago. there was talk of a tax on foreign vehicles then, it never happened, why is there not a gate at all the ports to charge at least 10 pounds a day on every foreign truck coming in, and give trucking companies a rebate on fuel out of this, to level the field, so to speak, when is a politician going to get is head out of his â â â and do something?.
