£100 fine for being just 1mph over the speed limit

Just 1mph too fast and you’re nicked: new zero tolerance approach to speeding

Unfortunately it’s going to happen all over the country. It all come about because to many take advantage of the 10% + 2.
In my opinion it will only cause more problems with people staring at their speedo’s rather than concentrating on the road but because drivers will not obey the law we all have to suffer. Thank goodness I have retired.

The reason why so many ‘take advantage’ of that so called ‘allowance’ being because most speed limits are unrealistic politically driven bs that have no relationship to conditions. The blanket 70 mph motorway limit, let alone other arbitrary reductions of even that, for no reason, being one.

On that note as I said great bring it on and hide the cameras and go for an all unmarked police enforcement fleet. Then we might just get these zb’s who are running the government thrown out. While at least finally stopping the situation,of being blocked from making a lane change,or being seen as a lane hogger,by those who think it’s ok to drive over the limit. While even your own comments seem to be a contradiction in that regard.IE if everyone is supposedly keeping to the limit why would anyone ‘suffer’ through the change.

Bluey Circles:
Have never claimed that I have never broken a speed limit, it is far too easy to get away with and presently being within that 10% tolerance is seen as acceptable. But if I knew there were cameras and the tolerance was 1mph, then I wouldn’t get caught, but I guess many other would, and to me that is better than raising general taxation.

In which case call it what it is.A form of taxation, that uses draconian enforcement of unreasonable speed limits,in order to save some from paying their fair share of the country’s tax requirement. :unamused:

Yes I would agree we need more realistic speed limits, but I would like to see it better enforced, and many many unmarked police cars to deal with the vast amounts of idiots who just take the pish with their crap driving.

It seems obvious that the agenda is all about reducing speeds for political reasons.Largely in order to make the choice of making road journeys less attractive v rail.On that note there’s no way that we’ll get less emphasis on speed and more on crap driving standards under that regime.

What a load of ■■■■■■■■ this is, May as well get hung for a sheep than a lamb cars have un calibrated odometers and many don’'t have cc the lunatics are running the show.

Bluey Circles:
I like taxation that I don’t have to pay, speeding is optional, bring it on, treble the fines and hide the cameras. May be even remove the penalty point system so we can milk the clowns for as much as possible.

I agree with you about speed enforcement being a voluntary tax, but I wish the authoraties would stop hiding behind the road safety excuse, everyone knows it’s just about raising money.
Catching speeders doesn’t improve road safety, deterring them does.

IIRC it is illegal for a vehicle speed display to show a speed lower than what the vehicle is travelling, but not illegal to display a faster speed. (Happy to be corrected)
I made a rare foray onto the motorway in my car the other week and was pulled by plod (unmarked of course) who asked why I was doing 56mph on a motorway! They thought I was trying to go unnoticed by keeping under the limit. I explained I was a lorry driver and it was just habit.
Completely irrelevant, but just thought I’d share.

When have they reduced speeds, it would appear to me they have recently greatly increased speeds. But would it be a bad thing if they did make road journeys more onerous? Seems to me that our dependence on car culture is way out of control, too many long pointless journeys being made, why can’t people use skype instead of making a 200 mile trip for some pointless meeting. Why can’t people buy stuff on the internet instead of clogging up town centres, parents should be cycling / walking to school with their kids instead of clogging up the roads in their idiotic 3 ton 4x4s. May be instead of raising lorry speeds from 40 to 50, they should have just reduced the max speed for all vehicles down to 40mph, including motorways. UK Transport needs a whole new rethink.

Exactly where have they ‘greatly increased’ speeds.Bearing in mind that ‘variable motorway limits’ are all about reductions in the 70 mph limit not increase, together with trucks being limited to 90 kmh not the 60 mph motorway limit.Together with numerous examples of roads being subject to ( often massive ) reductions in the existing speed limit. While your ideas just confirm what I’ve said in it mostly being about a control freak agenda that is ideologically opposed to road transport and/or the freedom to choose that option.

This is the result of “Legalised Bribes” by the AA (and a few others)… The police get bribes for each course they sell to anyone who is speeding (10%+9mph). If a customer pays the £100 fine and takes 3 points, the police get nothing as the fund goes to the coffers in Lahndan.

This prick should be sacked IMMEDIATELY. What next FFS?

TALK2MERADIO with Jon Gaunt had the police Commissionaire for Bedford on this morning he is the man who’s come up with this idea, he want to do it between J10 and J13 on the M1, but he seems more interested in making drivers go on an awareness course than a fine as the police earn more out of it, he recons to make 1million a year from it, says it all

I think there is going to be an increase in offenders refusing to pay the fine and opting for a custodial sentence instead at £x hundred a week cost to the taxpayer.

Speeding fine v being banged up in the nick. It’s a no brainer.

No need to lock them up, if they don’t pay timeously, simply take the cars from them and crush them, make them watch, the message will soon get through.

That is in part the reason for this country grinding to a halt, too many drivers who think their speed o meter is giving a true reading , if plod wants to play this childish game then they should roll out calabration FREE OF CHARGE , and include it in the yearly scam the MOT, just think how much more progress we lorrists would make in roadworks if the weary tyre kicking ,wobble box pulling car drivers , that are out on a jolly jape wandering aimlessly up and down the country had calibrated odometers fitted , then all the DSA would have to teach them would be how to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front, instead of the speed up hit the anchors rinse and repeat, another cause for tailbacks

Yes it does maybe you need to get your pc fixed… :unamused:

what about speedos actual speed and variables such as :-

  • New tyre’s compared to worn one’s which are still legal, Worn tyres will be slightly smaller and give you a higher speedo reading maybe only 1 MPH but. So put new tyres on and get done or drive every were at 65.
  • Also Tyre pressure I run my car tyre’s at 40psi but its still safe and legal to run them a 30psi, will effect the speedo reading.

Also as a truck driver I know its safer to keep out the way of any trucks that means driving faster.

Should be a minimum speed limit on motorways for cars of 70mph.

Its just an easy way to making money targeting people for speeding, what about all the lane hoggers?
