It’s been on the news that Police forces are wanting to bring in proposals for drivers to be fined £100 for if they go over the speed limit by just 1mph. Police Scotland are said to be doing a 6 month trial where if you are pulled for going over the speed limit by 1mph you will be spoken to and warned then if again you are pulled you will then be prosecuted and fined.
Other police forces around the country are monitoring the trial period and are planning to bring these measures in themselves. So instead of drivers concentrating on the road in front of them, they’ll be concentrating more on their speedos to make sure they don’t creep over the speed limit by 1mph
Another money making scam IMO and nothing to do with road safety. What about on an motorway? Do the police honestly think that by going just 1mph over the speed limit you are a danger to yourself and those around you?
On the radio news this morning, Bedfordshire police want more speed cameras on their patch of motorway, because “they need the money”…
And now that parking extortion has been legalised, life out on the roads is going to be fun…

Amazing how you always see the speed camera vans parked up on our motorway bridges but yet never see them outside a school or in any other30mph zone ain’t it?
i spoke to a senior traffic cop who was involved with speed cameras 30 years ago who told me the ultimate goal was to have 1 speed camera per mile on all main roads eventually…i thought he was dreaming at the time, but its heading that way with no other reason than being a cash cow.absolutely nothing to do with road safety, just an earner.
If this is correct - A link would be nice

No ROG its not quite right. The Beds PCC has said he would like to implement this restriction on the variable speed sections of the M1 that fall within his jurisdiction.

Don’t know how to put links up ROG but just google," Drivers fined for being just 1mph over the over the limit" and there’s a few topics on it from various sources.

Just 1mph too fast and you’re nicked: new zero tolerance approach to speeding
According to Superintendent Iain Murray, head of road policing in Scotland, the change is being driven by safety considerations. “We are talking about people who might be law-abiding in every other respect but fail to realise the risk they pose by driving on autopilot or failing to pay enough attention to what is going on around them,” he told the Scottish daily The Herald last week.
How does this make people pay more attention to whats going on around them? It will only make them pay more attention to their speedo and speed cameras.
I like taxation that I don’t have to pay, speeding is optional, bring it on, treble the fines and hide the cameras. May be even remove the penalty point system so we can milk the clowns for as much as possible.

So you can hold you hand on your heart and honestly say you’ve never crept 1mph over the speed limit?
The police don’t make the laws or policy on their enforcement governments do.In this case it seems like another predictable move that has the grubby paw prints of the rail industry lobby all over it.In order to tip the decision between making a journey by road or rail in favour of rail.
On that note yet more bs draconian enforcement might actually be a good thing in helping to get this authoritarian bunch of Communist Party appeasers thrown out.

Unfortunately it’s going to happen all over the country. It all come about because to many take advantage of the 10% + 2.
In my opinion it will only cause more problems with people staring at their speedo’s rather than concentrating on the road but because drivers will not obey the law we all have to suffer. Thank goodness I have retired.
Bluey Circles:
bring it on hide the cameras.
I’d agree with that but for different reasons. In that driving now, with the required levels of speed paranoia, together with others who don’t give a zb because they apply perceived bs non existent ‘allowances’ over the limit,is even more dangerous. While it might also concentrate minds among the electorate in getting this ever increasingly desperate authoritarian bunch of zb’s running the government thrown out.

Exactly. I was on permanent brain in neutral autopilot driving at 40MPH on the SC sections of the A66 prior to the speed limit increase. I feel more alert and a lot less tired doing 50MPH.
Interesting how its Scotland who haven’t implemented the HGV speed limit increase which hasn’t resulted in any more accidents in England and Wales. I wonder what rubbish he’d come out with when it was pointed out that in a country with 10 times the population that a 10MPH increase in the speed limit had resulted in no noticeable difference.

Have never claimed that I have never broken a speed limit, it is far too easy to get away with and presently being within that 10% tolerance is seen as acceptable. But if I knew there were cameras and the tolerance was 1mph, then I wouldn’t get caught, but I guess many other would, and to me that is better than raising general taxation.
What puzzles me about this story is the police being able to keep the revenue from fines, I always thought all fines were paid into the governments coffers. (Or may be this is just a Scottish thing)?
